| So much for transparency and openness of government. In September, an Ingham County Circuit Court judge ruled against a state law backed by Gov. Rick Snyder and the Republican legislative majority to require state employees to make an additional payment to their pension plan. It’s not the first time that an Ingham County judge has ruled against the state as part of that court’s role as the Court of Claims.
Let me sum this up for you, dear reader. In the space of a few short days, they've introduced a bill and passed it with no public comment or hearings in a lame duck session. In addition to being so contentious that they had to call out the riot cops during its passage, the meat of the bills short circuit the legal process for challenging it, which in the American legal system is intended to make sure that everyone's rights are protected. In turn, this further politicizes the court system by trying to make sure that the only courts that hear it are those least likely to issue a favorable ruling to challengers. Beyond the fact that it's Right to Work, this is some odious legislation they're rushing through. |
