| Brian Dickerson has a must-read in yesterday's Freep. It's about how the governor's message of attracting talent ain't makin' it. The Great Lakes State being ridiculed on the Daily Show and CNN is a insular, backward-looking place, suspicious of newcomers and new ideas -- a state whose elected officials are busily erecting new obstacles to contraception, same-sex marriage and voting, and new opportunities for people who open for-profit prisons, hunt wolves or pack heat in church.
Keep in mind that last year at this time, the governor's plan to attract talent was to discriminate against same-sex domestic partners, derisively called "roommates" by his partners in the Legislature. That was in 2011, and this is 2012, during which actual same sex marriage succeeded at the polls. Know who same sex marriage polls best with? Young, talented, educated workers. |
