The tenuous nature of government assistance

You don't know what you've got, 'til it's gone.

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Money has been added to debit cards for nearly half of 85,000 Michigan food assistance recipients who were without the aid for a day.

The state says Friday that about 40,000 Bridge Cards had been loaded as of midmorning. The goal is to add money to all of the affected cards by day's end.

I assume that some garden variety fuck up is involved. Regardless, it's a reminder of the need for this kind of thing. If food stamps were really unnecessary, no one would be screaming bloody murder over it. And, it's worth nothing that the people who brought this to the state's attention was a grocery store group. Those people benefit from food stamps to the extent that they sell food to the poor. Not only does it help people, but it's stimulative in that it directly creates demand for goods that would otherwise not exist.

where have all the jobs gone? (0.00 / 0)
yes, we should have an adequate safety net but the first line of defense in the safety net is a job. Democrats have been no different than republicans in defense of jobs being outsourced as witnessed by the trade treaty last year.

When are the democrats going to start talking about real job creation like manufacturing jobs - not Mcdonald jobs?

Foods stamps being thought of as a stimulous program is an astounding admission of just how foolish democratic economic programs have become.

If you want a vibrant economy - bring manufacturing back and tell the central bankers to shove their misnamed free trade dogma where the sun doesn't shine. How is buying products made from slaves in thirld world countries considered free trade?

America either revives its industrial base or it dies. There is no future for people in a post industrial America.

Sell Food to the POOR??!? (0.00 / 0)
Whatever happened to hurling stale bread, moldy fruit and maggot-filled meat into the gutters and watching the poor wretches fight for the scraps?

Have Republicans gone soft all of a sudden?
