| The other shoe droppeth. DETROIT — Federal prosecutors have filed a fraud charge against Michigan Supreme Court Justice Diane Hathaway, just a few days before she leaves the state's highest court in a scandal involving the sale of a Detroit-area home and suspicious steps taken to conceal property in Florida. The charge was filed Friday as a criminal "information," which means it was negotiated and that a guilty plea is expected in federal court. Defense attorney Steve Fishman declined to comment Saturday.
That last bit is for all you dead-enders who think Hathaway was the target of some elaborate conspiracy to drive her off the bench, or that she was somehow not culpable merely because she'd had a civil fraud charge lawsuit filed against her. Charged, and apparently guilty by her own admission. I'm just going to say this one more time ... past is prologue when it comes to predicting personal behavior. Someone, somewhere knew that she was capable of this, and yet the Democratic Party nominated her anyway. Update! ... The Michigan Republican Party weighs in. “Today marks the latest chapter in a terrible story, Democrat Diane Hathaway brought scandal to the state’s highest court and the political protection she received from Democratic Party leaders like Mark Brewer, Sen. Gretchen Whitmore and Rep. Tim Greimel is embarrassing. ...
Political protection? What evidence do they have for this? Or, is this some stupid comment offered out there in the expectation that the state's political media will, without thinking things through, simply include whatever statement the MRP has to make on the grounds of fairness in an effort to smear Whitmer and Greimel? |
