| Okay, we've arrived at a place where I am fairly reasonably confident to confirm that there will be a race for Michigan Democratic Party chairman, and that it will be between Mark Brewer and Lon Johnson. (By the way, the inset photo is a nod to fellow MSTie Graham Davis for his Facebook post earlier today.) I'm also reasonably confident to say this is an earnest challenge, and not some yahoo cooked up by the incumbent to prevent a real challenge. It's a race.
So, here is what's going to happen from here on out. The first is that flame wars will be closely scrutinized and offenders liberally troll rated. I'm a survivor, man, of The Great Primary Massacre of 2008. I'm not so enthralled with free speech that I want more play dates and mornings ruined by people complaining about how uncivil the Internet is. The second is that this is officially neutral territory. Neither Michigan Liberal nor I will endorse in this race. I'm not a party member in the first place, and in the second this is so small an operation that an endorsement might smack of bias on behalf of the entire site. As it relates to World War Democrat, this place is fucking Switzerland. The third is that we're going to give the candidates their opportunity to speak, as often as they like. I'm going to solicite from every candidate what they'd like to do with the Democratic Party as party chairman and post what they say. If one of the campaigns opts to not share, I'll let you know. For the next month, I'm going to also give front pager status to one person from each campaign, so they can appeal directly to party members. This is an important election, and the candidates ought to have unfettered access to potential voters. The editorial content beyond that, of course, is independent and if one side chooses to use this site to lie about an opponent, it will be noted. That is all. |
