(From the diaries! - promoted by Eric B.)
Sounds as though Vice President of the United States Joe Biden will be the keynote speaker at the Michigan Democratic Party's Jefferson Jackson Day Dinner next month.
Apologies for my lack of recent awareness, but I don't believe a current or former President or Vice President was the keynote speaker as long as I've been an observer of politics. There was Gephardt (that was the first Jeff-Jack I attended), Edwards, Schweitzer, Patrick, Gibbs (he likely charged a fee). Franken was likely the biggest recent name. He was 2011 from what I recall. I am drawing a blank beyond that.
I will happily stand corrected if this doesn't pan out or there were higher profile recent speakers, but it sounds like newly-elected state party chair Lon Johnson is starting with a big get for his first party headliner-nabbing task.
From the Detroit News:
A person briefed on the matter said Biden is expected to headline the annual fundraising dinner for the Michigan Democratic Party on April 20.
Liz Allen, a spokeswoman for Biden, said she couldn't confirm the trip. The White House typically doesn't confirm the travel schedules of the president and vice president until closer to events.
