I do snip out this sentence for all to see and marvel at. Now that Sen. Carl Levin (D) is retiring, Rep. Gary Peters (D) appears primed to run for his seat rather than for governor, and the bench behind him isn’t as strong as one might expect in a blue-leaning state.
I don't think Peters was ever going to run for governor, and probably the only people who thought that are national political pundits who specialize into parachuting into states, offering their sage advice on things they don't understand very well, before moving on. Still, the idea that the bench is thin is a spot-on assessment, which is why I understand that Democrats in this case are looking for someone who fits an archetype, rather than a recruited individual. |
