Bill Huizenga wants park service director to spend money answering questions about money

by: Eric B.

Fri Oct 11, 2013 at 14:07:45 PM EDT

Bill Huizenga is mad as hell that open-air monuments are closed to the public during a shutdown of the government tasked with policing and maintaining said monuments, the greatest crime since the attack on our consulate in Benghazi (itself the worst tragedy is mankind's history), and wants the Park Service director to spend time and money figuring out how much time and money was spent closing and policing those monuments.

In a letter to the National Park Service Director Jonathan Jarvis and co-signed by 93 other Republican congressmen, Huizenga calls the NPS actions “arbitrary” and “punitive,” saying it excluded veterans from war memorials and the public from national treasures.

“I have serious questions about the tactics and decisions being implemented by the National Park Service and clearly many of my colleagues do as well," Huizenga said in a prepared statement. "Director Jarvis cannot simply make up the rules as he goes along, which is one of the major reasons my colleagues and I sent this letter requesting concrete and definitive answers."

WHO COULD HAVE PREDICTED that in a shutdown of the federal government, parks and monuments administered by the federal government would be shut down?

In the letter, Huizenga asks half a dozen questions about policy and cost. Among them, why lower-profile open air memorials remained accessible while open air war memorials were blockaded and why the monuments were closed at all when they weren’t during the 1995 and 1996 government shutdowns. He also requested to know the cost to operate open air memorials and the cost to install barricades and patrol the perimeters.

Imagine the dudgeon these people would go into were it, during a shutdown, that someone vandalized "high profile open air war memorials." More than that, imagine what kind of mind that, during a shutdown of the entire government, spends time categoriizing open air war memorials based on high and low profile. The answer you come up with on your own will explain to large degree how we wound up in this mess in the first place.

I have a good what kind of dudgeon they'd be in.

A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always count on the support of Paul.
