Rape insurance rider now before our ongoing experiment in the Dunning-Kruger effect

Go us!

A controversial bill that would prohibit insurers from including abortion as a standard feature in health plans sold here is on its way to the state legislature.

Under the proposal, women who want abortion coverage could purchase it through an additional rider. Employers who choose to offer abortion coverage would have to inform all employees of the policy.

So much for a free marketplace operating without the interference of government. Let's not kid ourselves, though. This isn't just about ensuring that public money isn't used to fund abortions. A significant portion of this is a hamhanded attempt to get the ladies to stop having sex for anything but procreation.

This, particularly with the ACA now law, seems patently and on-its-face unconstitutional.  There are a lot of things the Republicans have gotten through that I think unfortunately will stick.  I'm very spetical that this even makes it past another election season, as I see this very easily being turned over in the same way it was passed by left activist.

Speaking of the way this was passed, this needs to be amended.  I read somewhere that the tactic has been used only four times or so, and a full three of those times it's been used to restrict abortion.  It may as well be called the abortion initiative.  I guess only nine states have the "indirect initiative" - where citizens can send a bill/law to the legislature, and this state also has legislative referendum for the constitution and statutes.

Maybe, things are just too easy, here.  Maybe there are too many avenues to pass law.  It feels counterintuitive for me to imply there may be too much democracy, but if anyone wanted to tighten up anything, it shouldn't have been recalls, it should have been the law-making process.  "Indirect initiative state statute" seems like a bit too much parsing, and too many cooks to put into the kitchen, like, if you don't think you have the people then you think you have the legislature or vice versa.
