MIRS tweet: Benson won't run for Congress in 2014

by: Eric B.

Tue Dec 03, 2013 at 10:59:56 AM EST

It came over the Twitters while watching objections to Detroit's bankruptcy go down in flames. Second sentence added to avoid violating "no one sentence post" rules.

In related news, I'm strongly considering dropping the second sentence requirement on the grounds that it mostly just annoys me.

So now it's Bobby McKenzie vs. Dr. Anil Kumar... (4.00 / 2)
...and perhaps David Trott will prove to be a terrible candidate (in my dream, Trott combines Mitt Romney's charisma, Rick Perry's grasp of the issues and Donald Trump's blustery arrogance), so we'll get to have an up-or-down "referendum" vote on U.S. Rep. Kerry Bentivolio's embarrassing first term.

Short of that -- perhaps even WITH that -- it will take a Schauer-Peters landslide, with coattails like Rick Snyder had in 2010, to turn the 11th Blue in 2014.

I've seen Trott, and he's tailored made for a district like 11, even more than McCotter, who actually wasn't all that good a fit, but came from the right place in the old district.  It'll take an act of God to stop him if he beats Kerry short of a major scandal.  Some folks on this side seem convinced that his foreclosure mill of a firm will be a major issues.  Not only am I not convinced, but in a district as generally wealthy as the 11th (the wealthiest of Michigan's districts, in fact), you've got voters who actually view the foreclosure crisis after the recession as a sort of cleaning-up of the rabble who shouldn't have been in those homes, anyway.

Don't ever underestimate how many of - and how quickly the wealthy are willing to pull the ladder up behind them, and with how much glee they'll do it.

More like the new 11th was tailor made for Trott (4.00 / 1)
Had Thaddeus taken the idea of turning in nominating petitions seriously enough to actually do them, David Trott still would likely have challenged him this year -- making next August's primary something of a direct battle pitting Wayne County's Republicans against L. Brooks Patterson's Oakland County organization. With the Tea Party off to the side, wondering which establishment candidate to support.

Instead we've got Trott challenging Bentivolio, who absurdly considers himself a "No Labels" problem-solver even as he spends most of his time on the Hill with Rep. Darrell Issa's Select Committee on Witch Hunts and Fishing Expeditions.

Note: Bobby McKenzie has also embraced the "No Labels" tagline...next time I see him I'll have to ask if he still wants that label now that we know about.

"No Clue," not "No Labels," describes Bentivolio (4.00 / 2)
He should be thankful that people like Louie Gohmert are in the House. They save him from being acclaimed the chamber's dumbest member.

A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always count on the support of Paul.

Can't remember which, but that guyb was either a lawyer or judge in the military.  It makes me shiver to think that this man had power over the freedom of actual men and women.  He is weapon's grade stupid.

True, but... (0.00 / 0)
Bobby has put together an impressive campaign so far and it will only get better now that Jocelyn has taken herself out of the mix.  There's enough uncertainty and weakness in the 11th CD on the Republican side, and enough potential candidate strength on our side with Bobby, that this isn't a race to entirely dismiss.
