Goat Killer plays a Kardashian to the homophobe set, trolls us all

by: Eric B.

Sun Jan 12, 2014 at 10:26:04 AM EST

As we all know by now, Goat Killer speaks on behalf of his party, both as an official elected within the party but also as someone who has not been admonished at all after saying incredibly inflammatory and stupid things. He apparently also sees it that way, which is why the other day he posted some new dumb thing to Facebook. Why would he do it? My guess is that he discovered he liked the attention of being called the George Wallace of a new civil rights movement (Does he think Wallace had a point in opposing desegregation? Is it wrong to speculate? It is wrong not to.--Peggy Noonan), and plans to occasionally post stupid shit to Facebook so he can enrage people*. Anyway, his latest dumb comment is notable because not only does it endorse homophobia, but it endorses jailing political activists working on their behalf.

A member of the Republican National Committee who has been criticized for expressing anti-gay views has apparently endorsed the anti-gay propaganda law in Russia.

Dave Agema, former member of the Michigan House, expressed support for the controversial measure via Facebook posting on Tuesday, according to two sources who are able to see the message and an apparent screenshot of the link.

“Read their law. Common sense in Russia,” Agema apparently wrote in a link to a Jan. 6 posting from the Illinois Family Institute, titled, “Russia’s Anti-Propaganda Law Riles Pro-Homosexuality Crowd.”

Of course, Goat Killer famously also said that he enjoyed watching state police crack the skulls of union activists the day that our ongoing experiment in the Dunning-Kruger effect rammed through Right to Work, so it might not be pure trolling. He might actually think it's a good idea to jail people for political activity.

At any rate, Goat Killer isn't just a former state lawmaker who was term limited out of office. He's now a sitting member of the Republican National Committee and helped usher through an RNC policy plank that endorsed "traditional" marriage (one man and one kitchen with a barefoot, compliant woman in it making him a sandwich), so we can assume that his comments here come with the tacit endorsement of that organization.

*--Why write about it? Simple, because at the end of the day he is an important person in the Republican Party and because the other leaders of his party have refused to do more than issue mealy-mouthed statements in condemnation of his conduct. In fact, the House Speaker's spokesman has repeatedly said that while the Speaker disagrees with him that he thinks it's wrong for anyone to be vilified, which is a defense of Goat Killer. Continuing to write this is less a condemnation of an attention-seeking bigot and more a condemnation of the utter cravenness of his fellow party members.

This man is a legitimately horrible human being.  I really don't have much else to say.  There honestly seems to be nothing that he can do to get on his party's bad side...well, except if he were to say something nice about the president, which would be a hangable offense at the RNC, I'm sure.

Agema has entered the Tyson Zone (4.00 / 2)
Which the Urban Dictionary defines as "The point at which a celebrity's behavior becomes so insane, that there is literally nothing they could do that would any longer shock or surprise you, or indeed any human being."

A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always count on the support of Paul.

I think he likes the attention, however (0.00 / 0)
I suspect, though having never met the guy, that half the reason he posted that was to watch people go insane over it. Except that it's not really worth going insane over. It's really just kind of sad and pathetic.

The way the Republican Party has handled him, however, means that when he says something offensive and stupid he is also partially speaking for it as an organization.

love affair with all things Russian. It started when Putin said bad things about Obama. Prior to that, Russia was a bunch of backward commies who supported countries we don't like. Now they are a shining example to be envied and emulated...

No kidding.  The National Review exposed that when the magazine used this as their cover two years ago.

It looks suspiciously like this Soviet propaganda poster.

Here's what I had to say about it in National Review ironically reveals another deep truth about the current GOP , "Eye spy the GOP's authoritarian impulses on display."

I'm not the only one.  A friend of mine who is a former Republican state committee member from Delaware did, too, and got noticed for it, as Andrew Sullivan quotes Michael Stafford's Soviet references about the GOP.

Greetings from Detroit, Ground Zero of the post-industrial future!

they slimmed and muscularized both figures from their true physiques, especially Romney. (not that the men are in bad shape, but it is a noticeable difference, in my opinion)

Great Lakes, Great Times.
