Take your plea for civiity and cram it then, sir

Most everyone assumed that when our benevolent overlord talked about civility the other night that he was taking a shot at Goat Killer's routine bigoted Facebook tirades. I guess I saw somewhere that Sara Wurfel, his press person, said as much talking to the media afterwards. Apparently she was talking out of turn if so.

"This is the State of the Union address so I'm not going to aim my comments at one individual. I wanted to make a general statement that there are multiple people out there who make comments that I view as inappropriate, because they're about differences of views or backgrounds.p>"We solve our problems in the state by working together, and so I made a call for civility and respect for all backgrounds and all differences.

When asked specifically if his message was not intended for Agema, Snyder responded: "I leave it to the people to make their own determinations. I made my statement, I stand by it, I'm proud of it. We need to work on it (tolerance) -- let's get better on civility and respect."

This reminds me of the public debate leading up to our invasion of Iraq and right through the revelation that we were torturing people all over the orld because that's how Jack Bauer always got the location of the dirty bomb. You could get behind water boarding and sleep deprivation and torching villages to extend democracy to the villagers and let a country descend into civil war because you don't know that Sunnis and Shiites might start killing each other an engage in ethnic cleansing and all that, but what was out of bounds was saying the word "fuck."

I'm not sure I or anyone else buys his explanation but if you buy it at face value, what you get is that the governor thinks it's more important to respect differences of opinion than in dealing with bigotry. That means respecting the opinions of bigots. Based on his explanation, it means we all have to be nicer to Dave Agema. No thanks, dude.

I made my statement, I stand by it, I'm proud of it.

If you're so damned proud of it, why are you so scared to clarify it?  Nerd, please.
