Randy Richardville says wants to bounce Goat Killer from his post

Not let him resign, that is, but formally throw him out of his job.

LANSING, MI -- Michigan Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville is not joining the call for Republican National Committeeman Dave Agema to resign.

He'd prefer to help kick him out.

"I'd rather that there was some kind of recall process," Richardville (R-Monroe) told reporters Tuesday morning.

"Those of us that belong to this party I think would like to have our names associated with taking him out of that office," Richardville said.

They could carve out a process from the thicket of internal rules if they really wanted. The first problem is that they'd have to have the guts to actually try. The second is that invariably it would come to a vote, which would create a messy, divisive mess.

If you're playing your money smart on this one, you see this not as a step towards trying to find a way to publicly get him out of office, but as the public component of a behind-the-scenes dance. Richardville is term limited and he lives in Tim Walberg's Congressional District, so he has no worries of pissing off the Tea Party. And, with Betsy DeVos publicly pushing this, probably here shortly someone is going to sit down and give him the Marcellus Wallace treatment.

By the way, I've seen a couple of people reference a need for the RNC to make clear in its rules how members of that committee can be removed from office. I disagree. The RNC rules pretty clearly put the job of selecting and replacing committee members back on the states. The job for cleaning up messes like this belongs back in member states, too. That doesn't vindicate the RNC in all this. The RNC adopted Goat Killer's anti-gay marriage plank unanimously just last year. So there is that.

Talking (0.00 / 0)
I was talking to someone to earlier today about this, and this is how it has to be done if they don't want to be labeled as hypocrites.  First off, they HAVE to oust him, then it has to be public, and then policies have to change or legislation has to follow the ousting.

That leadership is finally wanting to have their voices heard and their votes counted against this guy is a good start.  But, they have to do way more than this.  They can't oust Agema, and then continue with someone who'd vote exactly the same way at the RNC, and the state party and legislative caucus can't oust him and then keep going forward with anti-gay, anti-woman, anti-minority legislation.

BTW (4.00 / 1)
Between Agema and Patterson with his racist comments, this week, this is really helping push up the Democratic stock price come November.  Even if they do go after Agema, can you imagine how hard Agema's going to fight, and how long this could take?

A lot of Republicans (0.00 / 0)
agree strongly with Agema that homos and Mooslims are the biggest problems facing the nation. If they give him the boot, they alienate a lot of voters. That said, since Betsy DeVos has come out in favor of ousting him, he's toast. Money trumps the voters every time. They just have to find a way to blame Agema's downfall on the evil Democrats before they proceed.

Blame the Democrats....yeah, I can see them trying the Chris Christie "defense" (4.00 / 2)
How 'bout this for a suggestion...

It gets better (4.00 / 1)
Agema is skipping the RNC meeting, and he blames Republican liberals for making him do so.

Republican liberals were hunted to extinction years ago.

Money (0.00 / 0)
I think you may have this wrong.  2010 signaled a shift where money doesn't always trump ideology in the Republican Party.  Had money trumped ideology, the Republicans may have very well won the Senate or been very close to winning.

Betsy may be able to eventually dislodge Agema, but it's not going to be without a fight, and it's not going to be easy with someone as delusional and entrenched as Agema.

Precinct delegates (4.00 / 1)
The key to electing a non-Tea Partier to the National Committee is to elect more precinct delegates than the Tea Party elects. I don't see how Betsy DeVos, as rich and connected as she is, can recruit enough candidates and elect them in a low-turnout August primary.

They don't care if the replacement is a raging Tea Party person (4.00 / 1)
What they really want is someone who is going to be quiet about it.

Sounds like Willard "Mitt" Romney's "Quiet Rooms" argument about inequality (0.00 / 0)
It was stupid, disingenuous and elitist in 2012 -- and is even more so now when the subject is basic human decency.
