Republican state senate campaign donations: A bunch of PACs and people named DeVos

by: Eric B.

Fri Jan 31, 2014 at 16:01:49 PM EST

In case you're wondering about why they absolutely had to double the limit of individual campaign contributions late last year, you get a glimpse in the latest campaign finance records for the Republican state senate campaign. Nine people gave $40,000, and all of them have the same last name. I'll give you people two guesses what it is. As for the rest of it, once you subtract the, like, four or five individual people, it's all PAC money.

The takeaway is that it appears that exactly one family is currently bankrolling the entire Republican state senate campaign effort.

But, there was totally no coordination between the DeVos', of course, and don't anyone dare imply such a thing.  Lest we forget, it was Dick who lead the charge for Right-to-Work, and essentially threatened Snyder with a primary challenge if it didn't get on his agenda real quick-like.

Locally here in Mid-Michigan, I was really disappointed to see Consumers Energy's name pop up on Snyder's new nerd fund, and now pop up on the state senate list.  Same with Jackson National Life.

The funny thing is that the state senate is already gerrymandered to hell.  But, I guess when you have money to blow like this, it doesn't matter how much of it is unnecessary.

$440,000 DeVos money for the House Republicans too
