Wherein we learn that Betsy DeVos doesn't speak for the Michigan Republican Party

by: Eric B.

Fri Feb 14, 2014 at 08:20:11 AM EST

Joan Fabiano, the Tea Party activist who Rick Jones asked was on "head meds" a couple of years ago, sent a questionnaire to the three candidates to replace Terri Lynn Land as Michigan Republican Party national committee woman about Goat Killer and his anti-gay and anti-Muslim Facebook tirades. Turns out that all three of them, including the one named Romney, thinks he's just ducky. From Gongwer:

All three of the candidates for Republican National committeewoman generally had positive comments about their potential colleague on the RNC, National Committeeman Dave Agema, whom many top Republicans have asked to resign in the wake of his anti-gay and anti-Muslim comments.

Mary Sears, the kook from the Upper Peninsula who believes that homosexuals are the spawn of Satan (literally):

"I feel Dave Agema and I are cut from the same cloth. We both hold true to party platform and are unapologetic Christians," she said.

She'd actually previously said that. From Ronna Romney McDaniel, the spare Romney the GOP had lying around to toss at an open position.

"I have always enjoyed a good working relationship with Mr. Agema. If I have an issue with what another Republican has said, I will reach out to them privately and have a discussion instead of taking those issues to the media," she said, adding she would save criticism for "the destructive policies of the Democratic Party."

And, Sandra Kahn.

Ms. Kahn acknowledged she did not always agree with Mr. Agema and said, "He has occasionally been 'indiscrete'. In my opinion, that is because of the passion of his beliefs."

As to working with him: "Why not? Dave is a good looking, smart, talented guy. In my opinion, he has much promise," Ms. Kahn said.

And ... fini!

And all three agreed with Mr. Agema on one of the issues that have tripped him up: gay marriage.

This morning's lesson in that it's not the party's internal rules that are preventing it from bouncing Goat Killer, it's that the party just simply embraces bigotry.

P.S. Todd Courser, the four-time loser who suffers from delusions of grandeur, hints that a vote to censure Goat Killer is on the weekend's agenda. From sai e-mail.

Some will say this email is just about David Agema and his censure vote tomorrow, or just about Mary Sears and some of her comments on homosexuality.

For the record, there is no language in the Michigan Republican Party bylaws to allow for a motion of censure. There are rules allowing for the introduction of amendments and resolutions, but it is silent on the specific matter of censuring a sitting national committee person. If this comes off, it'll be a matter of the party interpreting its authority into its own internal rules (probably something in Robert's Rules of Order on this). But, again, the point is that this has never been about the rules. It's always been about the exposure of the very real and ugly face of the Michigan Republican Party.

They're trying to (0.00 / 0)
figure out a way to look like they disapprove of Agema without annoying the not-insignificant number of Republican voters who are bigots. Good luck with that. The tea party and Christianists are already pissed at establishment Rs, and however this is handled, they aren't going to be happy.

So, this actually answers my question of just how many times a candidate for this seat has to kiss Dave Agema's @ss to get it. lol  You know, 'cause Mr. Agema isn't wrong, he just said it wrong.  That's what this amounts to.

BTW, I really wish they'd quit trying to couch this in an attack on Christianity, though, obviously, it's the only way they can make their bigotry palatable to a certain segment of the population.  I'm not one, but there are plenty of Christians who practice their religion without being bigots.

From the Free Press on tomorrow's state GOP meeting:

"There are no plans to bring a motion of censure Saturday against Agema, who can't be removed under present rules, officials said.

"David Dudenhoefer, a state committee member from Detroit , issued a news release Friday saying he will bring a motion of censure against Schostak, because he "has failed to advance certain planks of our RNC platform," among other alleged failings."

Agema has a vote. I hope he's there tomorrow, casting the deciding ballot in favor of same-cloth Sears. That would be perfect.
