GOP official: Kick out bad apples because media uses them against us

by: Eric B.

Mon Feb 17, 2014 at 14:05:09 PM EST

Written at the top of Chad Selweski's blog are these words: " A country that loses its values, its principles, has lost its heart. A country that loses its sensible center, its common ground, has lost its mind." Used to be that he attributed them to himself. I could search Google to see if that's true, but the original source is unimportant. What is important is that, in posting them, Selweski gives you a glimpse into the ideology from which he operates. It's centrism: Awful, gooey, boring, unicorn-and-rainbows centrism. We've made fun of him repeatedly for it 'round these parts, matter of fact.

Over the weekend, he posted stuff from the GOP state central committee meeting in which Ronna Romney McDaniel was named Michigan's new committee woman. Someone (might have been him, might ust have been Joe D. on social media) posted photos of Goat Killer and "Trucker" Randy, the convicted felon who fled Macomb County for Up North and has since tried to wedge himself into a position of influence in Republican matters. He's the guy who tried to publicly extort Randy Richardville a couple of years ago, remember. One of the photos Selweski posted was of "Trucker" Randy flying the bird to Dennis Lennox.

I can't think of a better group of people to have "Trucker" Randy and Dennis Lennox in their midst. Lennox is cleary causing internal trouble by doing the same kinds of things to the homophobe and Neanderthal set that he once reserved for Democrats like Gary Peters, Nancy White and Garnet Lewis. Allegedly over the weekend, he was called a "fucking asshole" by Goat Killer in addition to being flipped off by "Trucker Randy." Meanwhile, a different Republican wrote something different about the internal shit show that is now quite public. Back to Selweski's blog.

“Unfortunately, because of a few self-serving individuals, a chasm has emerged that is dividing our party and altering the topic of debate, allowing partisan, clever reporters such as Chad Selweski of The Macomb Daily to paint the entire Michigan Republican Party and our candidates with a soiled brush

“From this writer’s personal observation, these individuals who have caused so much chagrin for our party with their bigoted remarks and boorish behavior, have done so just to enhance their own personal agendas. They are nothing more than pretend power brokers who have hidden behind the veil of, first the tea parties, and now the tea parties in conjunction with the Campaign for Liberty groups, enticing these groups’ often politically naive members to support them in their personal grab for leadership roles within our party.

If not for the stuff about bigoted remarks, you'd have a hard time sorting out if he were talking about Lennox or Doug Sedenquist/"Trucker" Randy/Goat Killer/etc ... One thing is clear, however, and that it appears he's more upset that the Republican Party is fodder or criticism by the media ... including noted partisan Chad Selweski (perhaps he didn't read the quote at the top, perhaps he didn't believe it).

Anyway, for those keeping score at home ... this is precisely why these people have earned this going strife. They don't see things in terms of right and wrong, but primarily in what helps the party win elections.

"Soiled brush"
That is some potent imagery, there.

Great Lakes, Great Times.

A few bad apples?
The GOP state convention ousted an incumbent National Committeeman, who had also served as state party chair, and voted to replace him with Dave Agema. I believe Agema got 70 percent of the delegate vote.

That's enough bad apples to keep the entire state of Michigan in hard cider for the rest of this year.

A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always count on the support of Paul.

Go look at the comments on Selweski's blog.  Almost all of them are proving his point, entirely.  They are trying to get the picture of Trucker Randy down, and apparently, Neumeier was told to take his story down.  What a mucking fess. lol

The scary thing?  It's entirely possible that this party could still be in power at the close of this year.  How many people have you registered MIDems?  How many of those million Dems have you found, Lon?  At the moment, we're counting on the minimum wage ballot to make the ballot to increase turnout, 'cause God knows Schauer still hasn't caught fire.

What a failure already. No money, top-heavy staff, no message. Ironically, he's relying on Mark Brewer and the "Raise Michigan" folks to carry the water -- which won't be enough.

Thank you!
And where's that Detroit office that was promised almost a year ago!? The GOP knows how to rile up their base, yet we shy away from ours because, you know, "DETROIT!!!1!"

I fear for these elections.

I heard Lennox moved to Virginia
If true, thank God.

I'm not a Trucker Randy guy, but some people deserve a one finger salute.

I don't know
You guys seemed not to mind him much until he turned his obnoxiousness inward.  I mean, I understand partisanship and the whole the "enemy of my enemy is my friend," but it needs to be said that everyone seemed find with him when he was trolling Peters.  He's a d-bag, no doubt, but he's your d-bag.

I heard he was living in Grand Traverse County ... is he still a precinct delegate or whatever?

As to the other, I've heard from a few Republicans over the years who were not fans of his. They felt he was an embarrassment to the party. He also made legitimate enemies while he was the Cheboygen County Drain Commissioner, basically of everyone in every other elected office in Cheboygen County. Most of them were Republicans, too, and when he ran for the state House he naturally tried to smear everyone else on the ballot.

His state rep run
I always had a gut feeling that something wasn't right. I forgot about his CMU stuff, although I wonder these days what actually went on. I didn't pay much attention until his drain commission job. Those I know in the drain circles were not impressed.

He lost me for good with his state rep run. More shenanigans there than a Ficano and McNamara get together. He got 7% for a reason and he had a ton of money.

I can tell you what happened at CMU, because most of it happened while I was still employed at the local paper.

A. He stalked Gary Peters on campus, trying to provoke him into doing something out of anger, and arguing that Peters shouldn't pull down a professor's salary (he occupied an endowed seat) while also being a candidate for Congress.

B. When that didn't work out, he started filing FOIA request after FOIA request. One day he took a camera with him while he filed one with the dean and when she got frustrated and slapped the camera away, he took it to WNEM (the same people who did a story about Dale Kildee's relative who accused the Congressman of molesting him as a child) and got it aired. That he was violating basically every FOIA procedure imaginable only surfaced later.

C. He also tried to get disciplined or even fired other CMU employees who were politically active as Democrats. That includes Garnet Lewis and Nancy White.

D. He so thoroughly fucked up CMU's chapter of Campus Conservatives that it ceased to be a functioning student organization. As a member of that group, he racked up thousands of dollars worth of security costs related to an appearance by David Horowitz (for some reason, both Lennox and Horowitz believed that people care about David Horowitz enough to want to hurt him) and skipped town without paying.

E. At one point, they tried to expel him, which seemed like a bad way to deal with it. But, he eventually dropped out, I believe without earning a diploma. A few years later, when the faculty were pursuing a contract, he showed up on campus in an orange ski mask (it was 90 degrees the day this happened) and rode his bicycle around campus, taunting professors. Eventually he gave a Tee Vee interview and didn't mask his voice, so everyone figured out it was him.

I think that's about the tell of it.

I'd like
Hey, Republican Michigander.  I'd like to apologize for the generalization and lumping you with other elements of your party.  I wasn't vulgar or overly mean or anything, but I was unfair to you, and your deserve better than that.  I guess I'm just getting exasperated with the drama within the Republican Party, both state-wide and nationally, as it is having a very real - and detrimental - impact on very real people, and particularly the people who are already beaten down and relegated to the fringes of society.

You are more sober, generally fair, and genuine than another person on here who claims to be on our side of the ideological divide who I will not name.  So, take this for what it's worth, and you're always welcomed around here.  I don't want you to think otherwise.

I've been called worse
Don't worry about it. I'm used to hearing a lot worse, and that's just among my extended family which ranges from far left to those that make me look liberal.
