Dingell to run for Congress

by: Eric B.

Tue Feb 25, 2014 at 15:07:11 PM EST

Any of you who don't this minute swear fealty to Debbie Dingell's candidacy are sexists.

A source close to Debbie Dingell said Tuesday that she would announce somewhere in the district on Friday, which covers Western Wayne and Washtenaw counties.

Was that source Debbie Dingell herself? Inquiring minds want to know.

By the way, if you're not reading comments in posts, you missed that someone said that Rebekah Warren is already circulating petitions. I don't have independent confirmation of that right now, so until I do take it as a rumor that it's true. If it turns out true, however, it would take away a big chip that I assume Dingell planned to toss onto the table. Back last year when she opted not to run for Carl Levin's seat, she delivered what some described as a shocking and bizarre rant about how she'd been stopped by sexists in the party. It's assumed that she would campaign not just as a Dingell, but as a woman in a year when making Congress more gender equitable will be an issue. If Warren is in, it takes that away from her (while leaving her exposed to what I've sensed is a strain of Dingell fatigue).

When those are combined with her reputation for being thin skinned (confirmed, as far as I'm concerned, when she tried to smear me as a sexist in the D.C. press last year for questioning her fitness as a Senate candidate), it could make this a very interesting race. That is, if Warren is really in.

Can we not do this, again?  Debbie's name has been raised here and at least three seperate diaries on the frontpage, and suffice it to say, everything that has already been said was said again and again...and again.  Talk about thin-skinned.

Not worth going on and on about.  Please

No, we're not going to ignore this race (0.00 / 0)
This is now an open seat that has generated national attention. I'm not going to ignore open Congressional seats with national interest. This is especially the case when the ramifications of said race extend beyond the district and into the Michigan Democratic Party at large.

As long as people are getting into the race and the field grows, you're going to have to get used to posts about it. I'm also not going to ignore the personality issues involved in this race, either, because those are a large part of what's going to drive it.

Man, if Dingell supporters have this kind of sensitivity about their candidate this early, it's going to be a looong 2014.
