Detroit News news story: Julie Boonstra benefits financially from Obamacare

by: Eric B.

Mon Mar 10, 2014 at 23:48:53 PM EDT

Ho, ho, ho ... this is good.

Boonstra said Monday her new plan she dislikes is the Blue Cross Premier Gold health care plan, which caps patient responsibility for out-of-pocket costs at $5,100 a year, lower than the federal law’s maximum of $6,350 a year. It means the new plan will save her at least $1,200 compared with her former insurance plan she preferred that was ended under Obamacare’s coverage requirements.

A Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan spokesman said the insurer welcomes a chance to help members understand their benefits and alleviate concerns.

“We are here to help people like Ms. Boonstra to work their way through adjusting to the health plans we are now offering them,” the Blue’s Andy Hetzel said. “If there are questions ... they should call.”

Boonstra later said she doesn't believe it. And herein lies the problem in attacking Ms. Boonstra personally or going through her garbage for proof that she knows Republicans or any of that other stuff ... she's not an evil person, she's just misinformed. It's very clear to me that she's spent a lot of years soaking in inaccurate media reports about how Obamacare is going to kill us all from factually inaccurate rightwing media reports that it appears that she simply can't believe that Obamacare will do anything but kill us all. So, when her own insurance company wishes to express to her that she's getting a good deal -- she'll save at least a grand a year -- her first inclination is to believe that she's being conned. That is, her inclination is to think that her insurance company is lying to her about what her new policy means because it conflicts with the shit she's heard day and night from Fox News. At some point in the very near future, if we wish to keep this republic of ours, we're going to have to do a mass cult deprogramming on half the population. I'll give you one guess which half.

As for Americans for Prosperity, it has to again be asked ... when they decided to exploit this woman's cancer for political benefit, did it ever occur to them to check whether she was going to be worse off under Obamacare and that they might have a moral obligation to come clean to her? Or, considering their willingness to use her as a human shield in a new ad, did they just apply a political gain calculus to her plight and call it good?

P.S. Can we finally start getting Michigan's Tee Vee stations to do the right thing and stop airing her ads. They're factually inaccurate and Tee Vee stations are supposed to have an obligation -- in exchange for using publicly owned airwaves -- to not lie to people.

When advised of the details of her Blues' plan, Boonstra said the idea that it would be cheaper "can't be true."

"I personally do not believe that," Boonstra said.

Bless her heart, the poor dear.  She doesn't believe not because she can't comprehend it, but because she doesn't want to.  Reality tends to have a liberal bias.

Now that this has been thoroughly debunked - and by some conservative-leaning media, now less - it's time that Peters gets the apologies he so righteously deserves for being lied about.

He won't get an apology
These guys don't give a shit about reality. They've committed to doing whatever they can to win the Senate so they can repeal Obamacare. They aren't going to let a little thing like the realities about Julie Boonstra stop them.

At this point, it's a matter of getting Michigan Tee Vee stations to not air these ads on the grounds that it's a public disservice.

Right. I anticipate yet another new ad soon.
They will find another new angle to try and put all of this on mean old Gary Peters, again with the grainy flickering pictures and all.

Great Lakes, Great Times.

That would require invoking the Fairness Doct-oooh, right
There's no real way to stop stations from airing out-and-out lies other than naming and shaming.

Which is happening. To no great effect.

Public service is always trumped by the revenues such ads bring.

You guys
Don't think for a moment I'm holding my breath for an apology or even a retraction.  If they've been lying about the ACA fr years, now, they sure as hell aren't going to stop over this one commercial. lol

[ Parent ]
Peters will get vindication
Not an apology, as you know - but vindication in the form of a landslide in November.

In the long run, everyone else who supports Obamacare will also be vindicated.

Now on Great Lakes, Great Times, Great Scott: Cotter vs. Jesus and Reagan

Is she an idiot?
Or is she a shill? Apparently, both. Ms. Boonstra has had ample time and motivation to find out what is really going on--from BCBS, and from AFP. Yet she hews to the party line, and resolutely continues to criticize the fact that she's saving major $$$.

To insist on treating her like a naive, innocent victim of circumstance (or of AFP) is flatly ridiculous. She is a willing participant in an effort to mislead and misinform people about the ACA.

Think of this all as Amway
Back in my Kansas days, I used to live with a kid who sold Amway. He got up at 3 a.m. every morning so he could get to work hauling packages for UPS and then had a lawncare and cleaning business on the side. He did all this to support his Amway business, which he kept insisting was going to make his fabulously wealthy.

But, he also struggled financially because all his money was being sunk into Amway, and he had real and honorable aspirations to give his girlfriend a great life. This was a guy who earnestly hustled for every spare buck.

One day, his willingness to work hard gifted him a genuine opportunity to make money selling insurance in Topeka, but it meant giving up on Amway. Who did he consult in making this decision? His "diamond," who naturally didn't want his own source of income to get away from him. So, on the advice of his "diamond," he turned down the insurance gig and kept breaking his back to support his Amway business.

The entire rightwing operates like this. It's a giant cult. They've been led to believe for years and years that anyone who tells them differently is a crook. So, naturally, when it comes to health insurance, the Julie Boonstras of the world are going to believe what they're told by the rightwing hierarchy over even what they're told by their health insurance provider.

I've known a few people who tried selling Amway stuff. They all ended up with their garages filled with laundry detergent, and never made a dime.

Any way to find out if she's become a paid performer?
Have any of the cable news shows paid for her to appear?

Does Julie Boonstra have an Agent?

I'm interested in this, too.  Is she benefiting from this financially?  Because, if so, that's another huge strike against this deplorable, shameful operation they're running.

[ Parent ]
Oh, and she is Mark Boonstra's ex-wife
What with the resources of a high-powered law firm and the network of a county party chair, you'd think he could have done something to ease the struggle of the mother of his children.
Unless she's no more than just another alimony check to sign. Then again, that kind of thinking may be exactly what Our Benevolent Overlord looks for in a judge.
