Republicans pull out knives for Mike Bishop

by: Eric B.

Mon Mar 31, 2014 at 14:00:40 PM EDT

Mike Bishop is one of the people being rumored as a possible candidate for Mike Rogers' seat. I hope he isn't. I hope that because Mike Bishop was an obstructionist clown as Senate Majority Leader and would probably be an obstructionist clown as a Congressperson. So it heartens me to see that his own are already sticking knives into his back.

Brooks Patterson supporting Barnett (0.00 / 0)
Whether he wins this seat or not, I always have anticipated Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett would be a candidate to replace Patterson for the Oakland County Executive role.

I have no idea who this "Beverly Kelly" is, if it is even a real person.

I'm waiting for Beverly Leslie to weigh in. (0.00 / 0)
But that's just me...

To her question on his "home" precinct results: (4.00 / 2)
Mike Bishop carried every Rochester precinct against Jessica Cooper in their 2012 Oakland County Prosecuting Attorney matchup.  To my knowledge, Bishop lives in Rochester proper.

He only lost four Rochester Hills precincts, to boot.  That is better than most Republicans in competitive elections, let alone ones that go on to lose with 45.3% in the county overall, as he did.

Lisa Brown won one Rochester precinct (out of five) and six Rochester Hills precincts (out of 32).  Andy Meisner tied Marty Knollenberg in that first Rochester precinct and carried four Rochester Hills precincts, so Knollenberg had some residual Rochester area mojo likely from his father's electoral history, moreso than Bullard who hails from northwestern Oakland County.

Bullard and Knollenberg both got higher percentages of the countywide vote than Bishop, although in the interest of full disclosure the Prosecuting Attorney race did also feature a Libertarian nominee.

Bishop home (0.00 / 0)
I believe Bishop lives in the Great Oaks sub on the north side of University, so he lives in Rochester proper.

That is correct... (0.00 / 0)
Bishop is registered to vote in the city of Rochester, precinct 1, which is in the 8th CD.

And Sam Singh is a No (0.00 / 0)
"State Rep. Sam Singh (D - East Lansing) has declined to run, choosing to stick with his state House seat." per the above-linked article.

Bishop (0.00 / 0)
He's definitely be more formidable than some of the names thrown around, but he definitely has some glaring flaws in a general.  He is both a clown and also comes across as one, at times; he'd be really easy to caricature.  He was also involved in Michigan's own government shutdown, which might play good or maybe just neutral in a GOP primary, but I can already see Democratic ads and fliers highlighting his involvement in a "government shutdown."

I have a level of contempt for this guy which has only increased with time, particularly after reading Granholm's book.  What I would be concerned about is if we could define Michigan John Boehner, as I like to call him, before he can define himself?  The state and national parties would actually have to take an interest in this race to make that happen, and that's what I'm concerned about.

Byrum to D.C. (4.00 / 1)
From MIRS: "Byrum To Visit DC; Singh, Meadows Pass On 8th For D's

"Democratic eyes seem to be focusing in on former state lawmaker and current Ingham County Clerk Barb BYRUM when it comes to their party's nomination for the 8th U.S. House District. "

If anyone can pull it off, it's Barb. (4.00 / 2)
She should go for it.

My tin foil hat on with this "knives in back" (0.00 / 0)
I got another one of those attack emails from this "Beverly Kelly." I can't prove it, but I'm suspicious that this came from one former state rep candidate from up north who got 7% in a primary, was fined several times, and narrowly avoided going to jail.

What was the thrust of the latest e-mail?

I can't prove that (0.00 / 0)
The email basically uses the "Macomb Daily" article to confirm its stance and repeat what was said.

Hopefully they'll stop now that Saul's not running.
