CapCon has entire post complaining that Grand Rapids talked to a real reporter

by: Eric B.

Wed Apr 09, 2014 at 13:22:09 PM EDT

This is great. Just yesterday, I wrote a post about how this guy took out of context material in a Congressional Budget Office report to attack a higher minimum wage. Today, he writes a post complaining that the city of Grand Rapids wouldn't respond to his request for a comment, but instead talked to a reporter from the Grand Rapids Press.

Manny Lopez, managing editor of Michigan Capitol Confidential, said the news service files a number of FOIA requests each year, and some are denied.

"But the terse, and I'd say somewhat angry, response we got from Grand Rapids was over the top," Lopez said. "I'm not sure why Grand Rapids thinks it's OK to respond openly with some reporters but to purposefully shut out others, especially when we're talking about public information and the use of public tax dollars."

Dude, mybe it's your track record of taking things out of context, ignoring inconvenient things in your "reporting," writing "articles" that start to say one thing but bury contradictory things deep inside or sourcing "articles" entirely with in-house "experts." Maybe it's that the city of Grand Rapids doesn't consider Michigan Capitol Confidential as an actual journalism outlet, and considers it as a rightwing think tank playing pretend journalists.

While running a press conference on private property a few years back, Jack Spencer showed up, attempting to walk in with the reporters. In front of his former Capitol Press Corps colleagues, I informed him that only actual reporters were allowed, and he would have to leave the premises.

Man, that felt good.
