Todd Courser wishes to fail yet one more time

by: Eric B.

Tue Apr 22, 2014 at 14:50:13 PM EDT

From MIRS.

Todd COURSER, the conservative Republican who was pondering whether to challenge Lt. Gov. Brian CALLEY, has decided to run for the Michigan House.

In a press release this afternoon, Courser said he's filed paperwork to run for the open 82nd District seat, which is currently held by term-limited Rep. Kevin DALEY (R-Lum).

Normally I'm a sucker for a man with grit and determination. This is a bit different. This feels like a guy who simply wants really badly to be in the public eye and will do anything to get there. He's a fourth-rate Kardashian.

"I am excited for what God has in store on this journey," Courser said. "Over the coming months I will be working hard and reaching out to the voters of my district. I look forward to hearing their stories and concerns. I hope to gain their trust and get the support of their vote on Aug. 5."

I was not aware that Todd Courser's sense of personal ambition doubled as Lord and Savior of us all.

If Courser loses the election, will he blame God?
All of this reminds me of the comedian who said, "just once, I'd like to hear an athlete blame God for his giving up the game-winning home run."

A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always count on the support of Paul.

"A fourth-rate Kardashian"
You know what they say, politics is show business for ugly people.

By the way, he's getting into an already crowded field on the GOP side, with reporter Jacob Hunsanger, Lapeer County GOP Chair Jan Peabody, and Arcadia Township Clerk Sharna Smith.  The only one I'd heard of was Hunsanger.  I guess I'd read one of his articles before.  Checking out Peabody's Facebook page makes her look like she knows how to campaign.  Smith, who at least has held elected office, submitted 220 petitions instead of paying the filing fee.  Out of all those, I'd bet on Peabody, who looks like a competent and conservative enough politician to win the primary.  Courser might not be able to make enough headway against her unless the field is more evenly split than it looks from outside.

Greetings from Detroit, Ground Zero of the post-industrial future!
