Terri Lynn Land spokesperson continues fine "Will say anything to win" tradition

by: Eric B.

From Teh Twitters, David Eggert, AP's political reporter:

@TerriLLand spokeswoman says Senate minimum wage bill would do more harm than good, could cost up to 1M jobs #MISEN

The 1 million job loss is, of course, the extreme high end of the CBO's projections (the CBO predicts job losses of about 500,000), but it also ignores that the CBO predicts that take-home income for every salary group except the very highest earnrs will go up, a benefit to 10s of millions and would shift 900,000 people above the poverty line. In other words, Terri Lynn Land's spokeswoman took the extreme high end of job loss projections and ignored other data that it would increase take home pay for 32 times the number of people whose job status is expected to be unaffected in warning that raising the minimum wage would do more harm than good.

Maybe I'm not understanding this correctly, but with hiking the minimum wage polling well above 60% both in-state and nationally, I'd say this is the exact opposite of "will say anything to win."  This is "say anything to keep my babarian supporters from storming the gates."  I don't know if she really believes this, but it's pretty clear to me that she couldn't say even if  she was ambivalent to supporting a minimum wage hike.

If this is "winning" than she is "Winning!" like Charlie Sheen.

Or bolting to the Libertarians and the U.S. Taxpayers Party in November.

Greetings from Detroit, Ground Zero of the post-industrial future!

That (0.00 / 0)
That almost never happens (in any significant way), even when they threaten it.  What happens is something like the tea party, which is self-sabotage...or they just stay at home.  They aren't so much worried about them going third-party as they are of something unproductive like some idiot running a write-in against them, or them shutting their wallets.

And yet actual data (0.00 / 0)
from states that have raised their minimum wage show little if any loss of jobs, and in fact show increased economic activity as low wage workers spend their extra cash.

Businesses generally hire workers because there's work to be done, not because they happen to have extra cash lying around. Note that in Australia, where the minimum wage is $15 per hour, a Big Mac costs 50 cents more than in the US, and the unemployment rate is 5.8%.

What are we waiting for?
