BREAKING: John Conyers put on ballot ... MUST CREDIT TEH TWITTERS

by: Eric B.

Seen it here and there and everywhere: A federal judge puts John Conyers on the ballot. This is a second sentence to avoid conflict with an entirely arbitrary rule forbidding one-sentence posts.

The two obvious questions:
1. Will it be appealed?

2. Who will run for the seat in 2016? (Either he retires then, or people step up to run against him.)

Now on Great Lakes, Great Times, Great Scott: Cotter vs. Jesus and Reagan

I don't think it will be appealed.
An appeal would be to the Sixth Circuit, which has already ruled (in Ohio) in a very similar case.  There isn't much chance of winning an appeal, and there isn't anybody (except Sheffield and maybe Matty Maroun) with an interest in pursuing it.

The big problem for Conyers is that every word he says, every gesture he makes, every trip he takes, is going to be subject to public scrutiny.  I don't know who will be elected in 2016, but I bet it won't be Conyers.  He simply won't be able to stand up to the constant attention.

Last Term Anyway
I think Conyers will take the "buyout package" after this term  and retire.

Like many folks who worked at a company or in an industry their entire life then late in their career found themselves downsized/terminated without cause in an at-will state who say "I'm not going out like this", and then find that next and last job just so they can go out on their own terms, so too will John Conyers.

I think this episode gets him an even larger win in August and then he can ride off on top. I think he exceeds 80% in the primary.

While I think he will be re-elected, should Charlie Rangel fall in his primary next month, that only furthers Conyers mindset that "I'm not going out like this".

Ex-Conyers staffer supporting Sheffield
In the Young Democrats of Michigan Facebook group, former Conyers staffer Isaac Robinson said this:

State Rep. Rose Mary Robinson discussing the problems with the Snyder State Take-Over with Congressional Candidate Horace Sheffield. We need a Congressman who will will speak up and fight Rick Snyder. Sheffield has worked for Mayors Archer (Detroit) and Koch (in New York) . . he gained federal and local legislative experience as an aid to Mel Ravitz and Congressman Charles Diggs. There is only one choice for working families in District 13. Only one with the experience, energy, focus and strength to fight for us. @Horace4Congress2014 VOTE AUGUST 5th

(Rose Mary Robinson is Isaac's mother, FWIW)

Filed for Wrong Seat
We need a Congressman who will will speak up and fight Rick Snyder.

Perhaps Mr. Sheffield meant to file for a state legislative seat.

Isaac - Conyers
First of all, I'm pretty sure it was Conyers who fired Robinson, so I'm not too surprised he is a little disgruntled.

As for Conyers, I always thought this would be his last term. He wants to be Dean of the House. In two years when he is 87, I think he will retire. This is also why I think Bert Johnson is running his campaign. He wants that Congressional seat, and what an advantage it will be to have Conyers' endorsement.

However, I think this open seat will be a complete free-for-all, especially within the Detroit borders. I think whoever decides to run from the Western Wayne County part of the District (Garden City, Dearborn Heights, Redford, Inkster, Westland, Wayne, Romulus) could steal it if they end up being the only one from the area who decides to run. (Could be Glenn Anderson, Bill Wild, Phil Cavanagh, etc.)
