Do not read this post about Terri Lynn Land's energy comment, because it will leave you dumber

It's not me. I swear it. It's this toxic nonsense published by Tiger Beat on the Potomac.

IN MICHIGAN, LAND HITS PETERS ON ENERGY, STEYER: Michigan Republican Terri Lynn Land released her own ad yesterday slamming Democrat Gary Peters' environmental record in a spot that touches on a number of hot issues. The narrator: "Why is Gary Peters waging a war on Michigan jobs and paychecks? Because Peters supports Obama's job-killing agenda, and is bankrolled by billionaire radical Tom Steyer. Peters also supports Steyer's call to kill the Keystone pipeline. Peters will be a yes vote for Obama's job-killing cap-and-trade scheme." Steyer’s PAC pledged this week to get involved in the Peters-Land race. Watch: http://youtu.be/QgmOOimCym4

I really don't even know where to start, except to say that it would be great if the state's political media would do a better job of unpacking garbage like this. It might even convince various campaigns to do a better job of making arguments.

How God damned hard is it to ask, "How many jobs will a pipeline planned to go through the Dakotas and Nebraska on its way to Texas create in Michigan," and then when an obvious fraud is attempted to ask for -- and verify -- supporting evidence; and when none is forthcoming, because it simply doesn't exist, to write, "Land's campaign could not produce evidence that the Keystone IX pipeline would create any jobs in Michigan."

We know this is already probably beyond the skillset of most of our political media, because the last decade no one has thought to ask for numbers behind the "job killing cap-and-trade" nonsense. What we do know, after 40 years of promises by the right that environmental regulations kill jobs, that environmental regulations on net do not kill jobs, and that cap-and-trade is a Republican idea that is favored by the business community.

All of this is wrapped up in the mindless idiocy of rightwing dog whistle politics. I predicted a month ago that by November, Tom Steyer would be a universally reviled figure on the right for no sane reason other than that he's a wealthy man who takes climate change seriously. For that, he'll have to endure a lifetime of having his last name hurled as some kind of epithet understood only by people who think that Newsmax is a cutting edge source of information.

I looked for images using "climate denial derp"... (4.00 / 1)
...and found this.

I think we're hitting stage three, with a few people transitioning to stage four.  So, how long before we get to stage five?

Greetings from Detroit, Ground Zero of the post-industrial future!
