Road funding bills might move in the Senate today

I wonder how much of this is being driven by internal polling concerning the state of Michigan's roads and the amount of time our ongoing experiment in the Dunning-Kruger effect has wasted enshrining the rights of gun happy nuts to kill wolves for fun. From MIRS.

A Senate solution to the state's road problems could come up on the floor as soon as Thursday, said Senate Majority Leader Randy RICHARDVILLE (R-Monroe), and it may not look like the $1.5 billion package the body has been mulling over.

"There's a chance," Richardville said when asked if he were putting something up for a vote tomorrow.

As the Republicans caucus on the substituted House bills that represent a potential $1.5 to $1.7 billion fix, conversation has centered around another idea: hiking the sales tax by a penny. It's something Click to add MIRS Bill Hound SJR J, sponsored by Richardville, would accomplish. That measure was discharged from the Senate Appropriations Committee and placed on General Orders May 21.

It would need two-thirds support form both chambers to be placed on the November ballot after which it would need simple majority support from voters.

This isn't terribly different than how we changed how schools are funded ... give voters who are unhappy with the roads that they can either raise their own taxes or shut up already about the lousy roads.

Update! ... Nope.
