Wingnuts again fail to learn correct lesson from wingnut victory

by: Eric B.

Thu Jun 12, 2014 at 15:13:51 PM EDT

The last couple of days, everyone's been talking about the primary defeat of Eric Cantor. I really have nothing to say about it that someone else smarter probably hasn't already said, and that includes me on Facebook saying that elevating any raving crackpot to Congress is probably a net negative for the nation as a whole, regardless of circumstance. What I will say is that our homegrown raving crackpots, those poor delicate flowers of the Tea Party have apparently all learned the wrong lesson ... that victory for them is nigh!

Of course, Cantor wasn't so much bounced out of office by a popular uprising as he simply failed to turn out his voters. This is the exact same thing that happened in 2010 when the Republican tsunami was less a Republican tsunami as it was apathy on the part of Democratic voters. But the lesson for the rest of us is very clear ... better make sure you get out and vote, because the wingnuts sure as shit will.

cantor's loss is an earthqueake to the establishment (0.00 / 0)
cantor was the point man for corporations and banks. he is closely tied to Goldman Sachs. he spent $5 million and his challenger spent $100,000. the turnout was considerably higher than several of the previous primaries in that district. it is very possible that cantor did get his vote out and that was all the support he had. people shouldn't underestimate the wave of disgust with the policies of the current political establishment. all in all, it was an feat.

America either revives its industrial base or it dies. There is no future for people in a post industrial America.

Cantor's demise (0.00 / 0)
may have had as much to do with Dems voting in VA's open primary as with teabaggers dissatisfied because Cantor wasn't crazy enough. And while VA-07 has a PVI of R+10, this fellow Brat just might be too crazy. He's a certified Ayn Rand worshiping nutcase who won't have much appeal to moderates of any stripe. He wouldn't be the first tea party upstart to get slammed in the general.

it's odd that brat is the only one considered a nut (0.00 / 0)
I hope no one is supposing that cantor has a sane economic or foreign policy, or is even sane for that matter.

it would be interesting to know if brat received democratic votes, which to me would mean they knew they were getting a republican rep and chose the no name guy over Goldman sachs' golden boy. I don't know how to find that out but it is an interesting theory.
