Half-assing our way to prosperity

by: Eric B.

Mon Jun 16, 2014 at 11:34:30 AM EDT

At this point, there's really no reason left to buy into trickle down economics, which haven't worked since George Bush I called them Voodoo Economics. Still, the zombie staggers forward taken as serious policymaking because our benevolent overlord Rick Michigan still gets credit as "a different kind of Republican."

"It’s clear that if Michigan is to regain the prosperity it enjoyed decades ago when the auto industry here reigned supreme, the state must aspire to be more like Minnesota than Indiana," report author and MLive columnist Rick Haglund wrote.

The report points to Minnesota's tax structure as a key reason the state is doing better economically than Michigan.

"The different approaches to addressing budget issues — Michigan tightening spending and cutting taxes for business and, effectively, the wealthy, while Minnesota raised taxes on the wealthy and businesses to invest even more in public services—typifies the varying strategies two states have utilized in addressing fiscal and economic development policies over the last 20 years," the report states.

This isn't really anything new. As long as Nolan Finley said that we had to cut taxes, adopt Right to Work and stop regulating pollution or else Indiana would steal north of the border and kidnap our baby from its crib, people have said that Indiana is a poor example to follow. We just keep doing it.

Expected next, a report that says that wealth is a finite resource based on the natural resources at our disposal.

Minnesota taxes (0.00 / 0)
It should be noted that in Minnesota, Social Security income is taxed to the same extent as it is on your federal return. All pensions, even for the extremely elderly like me, are taxable regardless of whether they are military, government or private pensions
