Today in campaign news: AFL-CIO endorses Hobbs, Warren Evans picks up an endorsement

by: Eric B.

Wed Jun 18, 2014 at 15:14:18 PM EDT

*--The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 324 has endorsed Warren Evans' candidacy for Wayne County executive, says a press release that arrived by digital courier pigeon in Ye Olde Inbox.

*--There is a League of Women Voters candidate forum starting at 7 p.m. tonight at Ferndale City Hall. The topic is the 27th House District. There is another one, also starting at 7 p.m. tonight, at Rochester Hills City Hall Auditorium for candidates for the 45th House District.

*--Update! ... That thing in the headline is true. The AFL-CIO has endorsed Rudy Hobbs in the 14th Congressional District.

Kristy Pagan also announced tonight that she has been endorsed by the UAW, AFL-CIO, and AFSCME in her primary against Natalie Mosher to fill Slavens' seat.

Was this at the Canton Dems forum? (0.00 / 0)
I missed the forum.

Anything exciting occur? How did the candidates perform and answer the questions?

Yep (0.00 / 0)
She'd teased the pending announcement to her email list and Facebook followers, then blurted it out during her closing remarks at the end of her allotted 15 minutes with the Canton Dems' candidate forum.

Then, promptly at 8:00, my email Inbox dinged with Kristy's scheduled email blast trumpeting what she had just told the Canton Dems.

Does that matter when the GOP is putting up a retired female Air Force general? (0.00 / 0)
Natalie Mosher may have had an edge on the issues questions, but OMG the bridges she has burned related to her run for Congress in 2010 and her managing Dr. Taj's campaign in 2012.

And her general election matchup with Carol Ann Fausone is not good, since both would appeal to the exact same demographic.

Kristy Pagan has the most upside, better energy, a better strategy, is better at networking, and has the social media savvy that Millennials expect and demand.

She's also at the beginning of what should be a long and successful career in public service. She'll do better at bringing new and lapsed voters to the polls, which will in turn help the rest of the Dem ticket.
