Today in campaign news: An IMP tells me that the Vampire of Misfortune is up on Koo Koo Kerry

by: Eric B.

Mon Jun 30, 2014 at 09:36:30 AM EDT

*--33-19, according to a poll cited by Inside Michigan Politics. Forty-seven percent of likely voters undecided. This is the 11th Congressional District, in case you're curious.

*--Also in the 11th, but on the flip side: Bobby McKenzie's campaign has announced that it has in the grip of its iron fist the endorsement of the Michigan Maritime Trades Council.

If anything else comes in, I'll update and promote to keep you abreast of the very latest in polls, endorsements and other largely meaningless tidbits.

What a surreal race. (4.00 / 1)
An incumbent GOP congressman polling at a paltry 19 percent? Has there even been a single anti-Bentivolio ad or piece of mail?

Great Lakes, Great Times.

Nothing (4.00 / 1)
So far nothing explicitly anti-Bentivolio. Trott's ads (and there have been plenty of them) make clear his campaign slogans are "Death to spending" and "Death to Obamacare".

Trott trotted out a new ad this weekend (4.00 / 2)
It's about the national debt and how Trott, if elected, will cut spending.

I wish the Democrats would raise the argument that the three biggest contributors to the national debt were (1) the Bush tax cuts; (2) the Iraq war; and (3) the Great Recession, which began with the subprime mortgage crisis that happened on Bush's watch.

A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always count on the support of Paul.

Mmmm ... (4.00 / 1)
Yeah, it would be good to have a Dem point out that a Rep decrying deficits is a bit rich, given the record of Reps regarding spending and deficits when they're in power.

Or else ask for details on the spending cuts to be made, to make plain he intends to balance the budget on the backs of the middle class, rather than just cutting spending on those people.

And that (0.00 / 0)
Bush was handed a balanced budget, or close to it, with surpluses predicted out to the horizon. Republicans then proceeded to deliberately--yes, deliberately--wrecked the nation's finances, and are now using that as an excuse to attack the New Deal programs they've hated for decades.
