Today in campaign news: Nurses endorse Helmboldt

by: Eric B.

Mon Jul 14, 2014 at 12:00:00 PM EDT

*--That thing in the headline. It's in the 62th District. He is running against Calhoun County Commissioner Terris Todd and former Calhoun County Democratic Party Chairperson Dave Morgan in the Democratic primary. I copied and pasted that second sentence directly from a post from last week. Does that mean I've plagarized my own work?

*--Someone from the 60th District, which pits Jon Hoadley against David Buskirk suggested that I help contrast the endorsements and campaign donations between the two candidates. Done and done. Here are Jon Hoadley's endorsements and here is his campaign finance documentation. Here are David Buskirk's endorsements and here is his campaign finance documentation.

*--Peter Hoekstra, according to something I read about an hour ago on Facebook, has endorsed Brian Ellis in the 3rd Congressional District Republican primary. If Ellis doesn't win, expect Hoekstra to blame Right to Life for some reason.

How many votes will Ellis get from Hoekstra's endorsement?

I put the over/under at 0.5.

I note that Dave Buskirk has an $80 contribution listed as
'Anonymous'. Isn't that a no-no?

Bobby (Empty Suit) McKenzie has been endorsed by Jim Blanchard
Five minutes ago, Mrs. Dudgeon answered the phone. It was a robo-call from our former governor.

I'm still trying to figure out why the Democratic Party establishment is pushing this guy so hard. Could it be that he's not a woman (Skinner) and not of Indian ancestry (Kumar)? That's my take on it.

A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always count on the support of Paul.

Free Press Endorsements and NBC Poll
Two endorsements from the Detroit Free Press.  First, Endorsement: Warren Evans is best choice for Wayne County executive.  At least that's a Democratic primary.  Next, in a contest most of us wouldn't vote in even if we lived there, Endorsement: Novak best choice in GOP primary for Macomb County executive.  This is not an enthusiastic endorsement.  The Freep described its endorsement as not "so much a testament to Novak's abilities as a recognition that he's the best candidate in a limited field."  They expect Hackel to win re-election in November.

Finally, an NBC/Marist poll came out today for Senator and Governor in Michigan and Colorado.

Meanwhile, in Michigan's Senate contest, Rep. Gary Peters, D-Mich., is ahead of Republican Terri Lynn Land by six points among registered, 43 to 37 percent.
And in the Wolverine State's gubernatorial race, incumbent Republican Gov. Rick Snyder holds on to a two-point over Democratic nominee Mark Schauer, 46 to 44 percent, although that's within the survey's margin of error.
Gov. Snyder holds a 14-point edge among independents -- which explains his narrow lead in this Democratic-leaning state.
Time to work on those independents.

Greetings from Detroit, Ground Zero of the post-industrial future!

So the Freep endorsed Evans and Novak
Sorry, couldn't resist.

Romney won Michigan independents
...in 2012.

I suspect that's because many of these independents are former Republicans who don't want to identify with the Republican Party, but who - in the privacy of the voting booth - reliably vote Republican.

This is still going to be about getting our voters to vote.
