Great Lakes, Great Times.

Yawn... Endorsements
Clarke's going back to Congress.

Luckily for all involved,
we'll know the outcome in less than two weeks.

Unless there's a recount. :-)

I pray that doesn't come to pass!

Name recognition
If Clarke holds on, this could be the ultimate case study on the power of name recognition.

But you never know. Hobbs seems to be making up ground. He's on TV now, and he's got a ground game going.

If Clarke wins then it shows that name recognition trumps endorsements and organization.

With Hoobs' two new commercials and more money and active endorsing groups behind him, he is ready to make a full out sprint these last two weeks. I believe the recent poll I saw had him gaining about 15 points on what he had in the previous poll.

I'm not sure if two weeks of commercials will be enough time to make a difference, but I definitely don't think Clarke should sleep easy.

Plus I think we all learned our lesson from trusting former singers in politics. #snark

Nothing is easier than solving a problem on the back of the poor. People who don't have lobbyists or clout.

I don't follow.
To which former singers are you referencing?

I believe the Aretha Franklin support of Brenda Lawrence is powerful. I take it you feel differently.

Also, she is still actively singing and performing.

Maybe she's referring to Martha Reeves, former Detroit City Councilwoman...

Perhaps so.
I believe Martha Reeves is supporting Rudy Hobbs in this race, however.

Deborah Thomas running for Supreme Court
The Michigan Association of Justice announced their endorsements. They include Schauer, Brown, and Totten; Richard Bernstein for an eight-year seat on the Supreme Court; and Deborah Thomas for a two-year term on the Court. No endorsement yet for the other eight-year seat, for whom a Democratic nominee doesn't appear to have surfaced yet.

Thomas was a nominee for Supreme Court in 2004. She ran again for the nomination in 2008, and many expected her to get it - but out of nowhere, someone named Diane Hathaway won the nomination.

Yes, that Diane Hathaway.

Given the effort it took to defeat Cliff Taylor that year - and the fact that Hathaway won by nine points - one can only assume Thomas would've also beaten Taylor had she been the nominee.

And she'd probably still be on the Court.

Gahh! You said her name!
She Who Must Not Be Named is my least favorite person on Earth, and I've been trying to forget about her existence. Thanks a lot.

Judge Deborah Thomas, on the other hand, will be a good campaigner. She has a gift for making legal principles understandable to the common person like me.
