I was voter 12 this morning at Precinct 2 in the city of Mount Pleasant. I voted for Dave Camp's replacement, which probably dooms me to years and years and years of mailings in future Republican primaries, which I suppose is something to complain about. Also voted against Proposal 1. If the Republican Legislature wants to cut business taxes, they can own up to it. Fuck 'em.

Check back for updates and what not.

Update! ... Brian Ellis is conceding defeat to Lil' Fella in the 3rd District.

Update2! ... Koo Koo Kerry loses.

Update3! ... Looks like Proposal 1 is going to pass. We all suck at making predictions.

Update4! ... Mike Bishop beats Tom McMillin.

Update5! ... Paul Mitchell concedes to John Moolenaar in the 4th.

Update6! ... It looks like Kristy Pagan is going to win in the 21st House District. With 93 percent of the precincts in, she's up by 600 votes.

Update7! ... Vincent Gregory has won in the 11th Senate District.

Update8! ... Marty Knollenberg holds off perennial candidate Rocky Raczkowsi in the 13th District. Cyndi Peltonen knocks off Ryan Fishman in the Democratic primary.

Update9! ... Bobby McKenzie will face the Vampire of Misfortune in the 11th Congressional District race.

Update10! ... Rashida Tlaib has beaten Virgil Smith in the 4th Senate District.

Update11! ... Stephanie Chang wins the 5th House District nomination.

Update12! ... Wendy Day loses to Hank Vaulpel in the 47th House District, a blow to the Tea Party and loons everywhere.

Update13! ... Frank Liberati beats Tony Trupiano for the Dem. nomination in the 13th House DIstrict.

Update14! ... Warren Evans up 2-1 on Bill Wild with 67% in.

Update15! Perennial candidate Todd Courser appears likely to finally win a race. Gary Glenn appears likely to win, too.

Update16! ... This from MIRS: "County clerks have @MayorLawrence 23,781-@rudyhobbs 22,955. AP has Hobbs 21,892, Lawrence 21,652" - also, the call for Tlaib may have been a tad premature. Hang on to your hats, folks.

Maybe awful polling outfits like McLaughlin are hiring (0.00 / 0)
McLaughlin explained their bad call on the Brat-Cantor race by saying the electorate wasn't what they expected to see. Aren't pollsters expected to draw a sample that will reflect who actually goes to the polls?

A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always count on the support of Paul.

I did a "Thad Cochran" in Michigan move (0.00 / 0)
in order to vote against Gary Glenn - I'm not taking any chances!  Last time I checked, Ieuter was up by 3 votes.  Glenn's people were standing around holding up campaign signs in front of several polling places in Midland.  Technically, it's legal (100 ft), but talk about low class, sheesh!

Although I would most vehemently oppose this wingnut, I am confused about what is low class about holding up campaign signs beyond the 100' legal boundary at polling places.

This is something campaigns - Democrats as well as others - have done for years and continue to do. I get the opposition to the candidate in question, but not what makes this event "low class"

In the words of Dan Rather, these races are "tight as a tick" (0.00 / 0)
In the 11th, Bobby McKenzie leads Anil Kumar by 158 votes (out of more than 30,000 cast) with 94 percent counted.

In the 14th, Ruddy Hobbs leads Brenda Lawrence by 73 votes (out of more than 52,000 cast) with 78 percent counted.

Final unofficial result in the 11th (0.00 / 0)
McKenzie 11,996
Kumar 11,525

Jon Hoadley in 60th (0.00 / 0)
proved that a big fundraising advantage, a legion of enthusiastic volunteers, and a wicked smart campaign plan can indeed prevail over 20 years of name recognition and a veteran County Commissioner, in crushing David Buskirk 66% to 22% (my colleague in the Kalamazoo Township Board, Pamela Brown Goodacre, had 12%).

So glad to see Rashida win! (0.00 / 0)

News that comes as no surprise (0.00 / 0)
Dingell, Walberg cruise to easy primary victories
Tuesday night, an incumbent and the wife of a retiring incumbent cruised to victory in their respective party's primaries.

Debbie Dingell defeated Raymond Mullins for the Democratic nomination to succeed her husband John in the Twelfth Congressional District, which includes Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, and surrounding areas of eastern Washtenaw County as well as western and southern Wayne County.

Tim Walberg fended off challenger Douglas North for the Republican nomination in the Seventh Congressional District, which encompasses western and northern Washtenaw County along with a wide swath of southern Michigan extending from Monroe County to Branch County, as well as the counties of Jackson and Eaton.

Details and statements from the candidates at the links.

I thought these would be blowouts, and they were.

Greetings from Detroit, Ground Zero of the post-industrial future!
