| Biography:
Senator Burton Leland is a graduate of Mumford High School in Detroit. He received his Bachelor of Science from Wayne State University and his M.S.W. from the University of Michigan.
A former Social Worker in the Wayne County Department of Social
Services, Senator Leland was first elected to the House of
Representatives in 1980 and served until 1998 when he was elected to
the Michigan Senate.
Senator Leland is married to Rosanne and they have two sons, Zachary
and Gabriel. He is a member of the National Association of Social
Workers and the Michigan Democratic Party.
Senator Leland is a member of the following Senate Committees:
- Banking & Financial Institutions, Minority Vice Chair;
- Education;
- Technology and Energy;
- Transportation, Minority Vice Chair (Democratic Caucus)
