World Series game 2 - FINAL SCORE Det 3 Stl 1

by: matt

Sun Oct 22, 2006 at 19:41:05 PM EDT

UPDATE by Matt: TIGERS WIN! TIGERS WIN! Kenny Rogers! Wow!

FINAL SCORE: Tigers 3 Cardinals 1

Next game: 8PM Tuesday in St. Louis

Meanwhile, back at the corner of Michigan & Trumbull...

I want to be on record as saying I don't approve of vandalism. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't get a few chuckles out of this. Not laughing about the sorry state of that old ballpark, though. Man, do I miss that place.

Also...apologies to LJ. I'm sorry I ever doubted you. Looks like these "customized" billboards are appearing in different places around the city.

Post your reactions to THE GAME here.

Everybody now...

LET'S GO TIGERS, LET'S GO!...

Are they really going to raze Tiger Stadium next summer? (0.00 / 0)
I like the idea of bringing a Major League Soccer team to Detroit and play home games at "The Corner".

Memories from Michigan & Trumball (0.00 / 0)
Makes me sad when I think about all the days we would jump in the car on short notice and sit in the bleachers for a game.

And then of course, there were all the times we played hooky from work.

Sorry, but I'm not impressed. And why is someone from Bloomington, Indiana, getting the spotlight at Comerica Park?

Or did they not show it?

I wonder if that 3-year-old from Westland is watching? (0.00 / 0)
He was at yesterday's game dressed in his tiger costume, and "his Tiger", Magglio Ordonez, gave him an autographed baseball.

Cold!! (0.00 / 0)
Man, it sure is cold outside.  I sure am glad to be watching this in the comfort of our warm and toasty home.

I don't understand how a pitcher can keep warm enough out there in the longer innings.  Matter of fact the guys in the outfield have to be chillin' as well.

Now I'm annoyed (0.00 / 0)
they didn't show Sparky throwing out the first pitch. I had to watch a twit from American Idol and I didn't get Take Me Out to the Ball Game.

Next time I'll have to watch the game in person. Any one have tickets? /snark

Kenny Rogers is in elite company (0.00 / 0)
In the "most consecutive scoreless World Series innings," he's third, behind Christy Mathewson and Lew Burdette. Rogers is money well spent.

And we need to take another look at the save rule (0.00 / 0)
Todd Jones turned it into a nail-biter and got rewarded with a save. Can we create a new category called "self-inflicted saves"?

Jim Rinck was a Tigers good-luck charm! (0.00 / 0)
3rd CD candidate Jim Rinck from Grand Rapids turned out to be a good luck charm for the Detroit Tigers in game two.  I spoke with Jim yesterday and he mentioned to me that he would be at the game today.

And any pitcher that does not go by the name of Kenny Rogers!

I forgive you. (0.00 / 0)
I was just insulted that you think I would have done that crappy of a job using Photoshop. lol

Go Tigers! Wow, what a performance by Kenny Rogers!

Go Tigers! Go Blue! Go Green & White! (4.00 / 1)
Good weekend once again, overall, for MIchigan sports fans.

I'm happy to report that in addition to this former Michigander, at least one cab driver in San Francisco is rooting for the American League champion Tigers despite being more a national league guy (Giants fan).  :)  I got to listen to a bit of the end of the game on the ride home from the office tonight (yeah - working on a Sunday cuz I have a call to jury duty tomorrow that will take me away from my work stuff during regular hours - oy).  Congrats Tigers and fans! :)

And yes, Granholm was at the game... (0.00 / 0)
Heh heh.

An appropriately dressed Gov. Jennifer Granholm -- blue "Detroit" windbreaker and Tigers cap -- was spotted as well, down on the stadium's lowest level near the ballfield.

Sunday was Dem night.

So Republicans DeVos and senatorial candidate Mike Bouchard on Saturday night, and Democrats Granholm and Sen. Debbie Stabenow Sunday night -- did the politicos get together and divvy up the Series or something? Did we miss the memo?

You just have to laugh.
