State of the State

by: joan

Tue Feb 06, 2007 at 17:44:30 PM EST

Hello everyone! I'm Joan, who you all may not know personally but whose uterine contents are most likely already familiar to you.

I just finished reading the delightful thoughts of Saul Anuzis (who should really leave the sarcasm to those better suited for it) on what he would like to see in the State of the State Address this evening. Being the newly-returned state resident that I am, I also have a few things that I would like to see the governor approach, although I assure you that my priorities are different than those of Mr. Anuzis. You know, since I'm currently a welfare mom, and he is very much not. But then, I'm sure that he has my best interests at heart, guarding them carefully with his faith in the invisible hand of the marketplace freed from the tyranny of unnecessary taxes. Right?

No, wait, he really doesn't. The marketplace hasn't been kind to my unemployed and pregnant behind lately, and I have a feeling that it hasn't been to the behinds of many other people, either. Which would be why Governor Granholm is giving this speech tonight, and not anyone else.

Be sure to check out the real speech at 7:00 on your local PBS or NPR station.

Welcome, Joan (0.00 / 0)
Nice to meet you!  Hope you're feeling well -- congrats!

Watch the speech online (0.00 / 0)
WXYZ.com, if for some reason you have access to the Internet and not a TV. Or maybe you just don't have enough tin foil to put on your rabbit ears to get a PBS station's reception. It will be on channel 7 in Detroit, though.

Go Granholm!

It's also on public TV (0.00 / 0)
I'm watching it on WTVS-TV (Detroit).

Huh? George Bullard on Skubick's panel? (0.00 / 0)
Was Beckmann busy?

I have better things to do (0.00 / 0)
than watching five middle-aged white men talk about the Gov's speech.

I agree (0.00 / 0)
I watched about three minutes of that panel, and couldn't stand it anymore.

I switched to Olbermann as soon as Jen finished (0.00 / 0)
I couldn't bear to listen to those guys trash her.  I was an amazing speech, as usual.

And now the Republican Response..... (0.00 / 0)
Didn't we just hear it from Skubick's Panel?

Sounded like it to me anyways...

Benjamin Franklin: "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." I WANT MY HABEAS CORPUS BACK!!

Aw, HAMBURGERS! (0.00 / 0)
I missed it!  The speech!  The Skoob!  The frenzy!  The sound of gauntlets being thrown!

Republican response was humorous (0.00 / 0)
Could they have dug up any more of a weasely kinda guy if they tried?  Sheesh...  it's almost as if they deliberately did that to make Skubick sound less like a dweeb.  I love how they flashed "Republican Senate" on the screen every so often as if to remind you that it was an infomercial.

[ Parent ]
Cue up (4.00 / 1)
"Republicans in the Legislature."

They're gray!  They're flabby!  They're all singing from the same sheet of music!

Speaking of that... (4.00 / 1)
...here's a shameless plug for a bit o' snarkiness that I just couldn't resist staying up late to write.
I have a couple choice words about Sen. George's response.
One question....What were they thinking!?!?!?
