Gospel of Skubick Tainted?

by: LiberalLucy

Thu Mar 08, 2007 at 21:59:43 PM EST

Full Disclosure - I am not the president of the Tim Skubick Fan Club.

By the very nature of what we do, bloggers and traditional mainstream media (MSM) journalists clash. We both report, discuss and observe. One group gets paid, reports to an editor and publisher. The other are very rarely paid for any of their work, and have very little editoral restrictions.

Bloggers are generally not thought of as "worthy" or reputable as the MSM. Bloggers usually think that most of the MSM hide their thinly veiled partisanship behind their paychecks. Each group says things about the other in passing, both displaying very little love for the other. For the most part, both groups pride themselves on being factually correct, however spun it might be.

Every once in a while, someone in each of the groups stumbles across something that smells a little ripe. This time around, it's Nirmal on Skubick. Regardless of how much you love or hate the Skub, it's a very interesting point, and one worth looking into and discussing.

wow, this is very flattering (4.00 / 1)
Thanks LL.

Also, you raise an interesting point about the MSM vs. bloggers.

Regardless of how good or shoddy news reporting by the MSM is, it is undeniable that bloggers need the MSM in order to blog effectively.  The MSM does the "dirty work" that creates real content, such as making phone calls and traveling places.

It's punditry in the MSM that is completely vapid.  Pundits are paid to have opinions and defend them with rational argument.  They're supposed to be able to articulate to us why they believe in what they believe better than the average person could.  Unfortunately, Skubick and some of his fellow panelists on OTR sometimes aren't able to substantiate their judgments the way that they ought to.

Chance to question Skubick (0.00 / 0)
If you would like to question Tim Skubick on this and other of his "issues" the Mason County Dems are having him speak at their Desert Sampler on May 6th in Ludington at the Sterns Motor Inn at 2 p.m. I'm sure they would welcome all Democrats at this fund raiser.(I'm not sure why they are welcoming Skubick, but hey, here is a chance to hold him accountable).

The end of the human race will be that it will eventually die of civilization.

Tainted Skubick (4.00 / 1)
I'm not so sure I buy into Skubick being tainted because of any organization that chooses to sponser OTR.  I don't really watch his show too often (mostly never) but I seem to recall that at one time Kelly Rossman's PR firm was an OTR sponsor.  Now, Ms. Rossman's firm has a fine reputation and  works on behalf of many clients.  I don't think she would ever have used her sponsorship to lean on Mr. Skubick to side with an issue one way or another.  In all liklihood, Mr. Skubick probably barely pays any attention to who sponsors OTR...but I could be wrong. I do know he delights in getting people on both sides of the political spectrum thinking he's for the other side...he likes to keep people guessing what his real politics are.  Once upon a time I knew where he stood on many issues but nowadays your guess is as good as mine, so I guess he's continuing to perfect his "keep 'em guessing" routine.  Meanwhile, it does appear he leans increasingly to the right which baffels me, given his working class up-bringing.

yeah, i really have no idea (0.00 / 0)
it was just speculation... which is why I didn't post it here :-P
