(You can watch many of the events from the conference on C-Span. Check it out! - promoted by LiberalLucy)

From JenniferGranholm.com:

This weekend, governors from states across the country will be meeting in Traverse City, Michigan for the National Governors Association (NGA) 2007 Annual Summer Meeting. It will be a weekend full of meetings for governors, policymakers and business leaders to share ideas, and chart a course for the coming year. And, for Michigan, it will be a chance to showcase our many splendors -- from fresh Michigan corn on the cob and cherries, to the beautiful waters of lake Michigan, to our world class golf courses and activities. And it will be a chance to highlight our innovative responses to economic challenges, including the 21st Century Jobs fund, our rigorous new high school curriculum and the Governors proposed No Worker Left Behind program.

First, there's all the great things about Michigan - and there are a lot of them...

TheConversation :: All Eyes on Michigan
If you've ever been to Traverse City, you know the most obvious thing is the natural beauty. From the rolling, tree-covered hills to the clear, blue waters of Grand Traverse Bay, Michigan's natural charm is on display everywhere you turn. And those picturesque sunsets and breathtaking waterscapes are more than just easy on the eyes, they're great for the economy. In fact, thanks to our natural beauty, tourism is one of the key components driving Michigan's economy. That's why our Pure Michigan ad campaign is so successful, all we have to do is show them how beautiful our state is and people from around the world will be making plans to visit! Well, the NGA conference promises to do more of the same. By bringing hundreds of people to the shores of Lake Michigan, we can be sure we'll be welcoming them - and their friends and business associates - back to Michigan again and again.

Then, there's all the great things we're doing to meet the challenges of the 21st Century economy. The theme of this year's NGA meeting is "Innovation America." And choosing Michigan as the location for this event couldn't be more appropriate. Governor Granholm has put together an aggressive plan to compete and win in this global economy with innovative solutions that are - to borrow a phrase from the commercials - Pure Michigan. The state that put the world on wheels is transforming. We're diversifying into things like alternative energy and cutting-edge technology that makes use of our competitive advantages over the rest of the world -- particularly in areas like education and training. This weekend will be an opportunity to share our progress with other states and let them know about the innovative solutions and competitive business climate we're fostering here in Michigan. And, of course, it will be a chance for the governor to listen and learn as other states and businesses share their success stories with us.

So, it's a big weekend for Michigan. I'll be in Traverse City and I'll do my best to provide some live updates from the event. And, if I can, even some pictures of all the action. We should all be proud that Michigan has been chosen to host this conference. We certainly won't be afraid to brag a little about our great state and everything it has to offer.

I look forward to the updates! (4.00 / 1)
A member of my beloved "sisterhood" and chair of our local Dem party is very active in this event.  She's credentialed as a volunteer and a guest so I'm hoping to hear some interesting tales soon.  She's also hosting some of the Governor's staff at her home and I am heading out of town in a couple of hours so I don't expect to get the scoop anytime before Monday morning.

The weather here is perfect and the forecasts predict it will remain so.  As Traverse is a very hospitable place and, as mentioned in this diary, quite beautiful, you can all be assured our visiting guests will leave with a very positive impression of our great state.

To prepare for when your life flashes before your eyes, make sure it's fun to watch.

The volunteers are AMAZING! (4.00 / 1)
So far, they are making our state very proud! And I had the opportunity to talk with your friend at length yesterday. She's an incredible person and a great ambassador for Michigan. We are really lucky to have such great people representing our state and our governor.
