Hi-ho, hi-ho, it's off to Chicago we go!

by: LiberalLucy

Wed Aug 01, 2007 at 01:23:41 AM EDT

As a reader of MichLib, you know how the Internet is drastically changing the face of Democratic politics across Michigan and the country.

For the first time in a very long time, ordinary people are getting much more directly involved in shaping the face of politics, whether it's at the local, state or federal level.

Here in Michigan, we've got one of the strongest netroots communities in the entire country. Yes, you heard me right, we're leading the pack. I've heard from people in D.C., New York, California, and everywhere in between who are envious of the size and power of the Michigan progressive netroots.

And now, we're really about to grow leaps and bounds.

Over the next 48 hours, there will be a mass exodus of Michigan bloggers and netroots activists who will be heading to Chicago to take part in a momentous event that Bill O'Reilly and the Right can only drool over - YearlyKos 2007.

LiberalLucy :: Hi-ho, hi-ho, it's off to Chicago we go!
Started last year by a group of folks over at the largest lefty blog on the Tubes of the Internet, DailyKos, you can read more about YKos here.

Several of Michigan's bloggers will be serving as featured speakers, panel moderators, and be given as examples of how to succeed in netroots activism. All of us will be learning through participating, and are sure to return even more rich in tools, tricks, and tips of the trade designed to further grow and strengthen progressive ideals.

Some of us will come back and be ready to jump into campaign work, guiding and advising candidates and issue campaigns into victory.

Others will return with their Rolodexes bursting at the seams, poised to unite our great state with some of the most important work that's being done in progressive policy across the country.

A few will arrive and announce their candidacy for office, ready to run as a netroots-friendly candidate just like our own Governor.

More still will come back, revved up and ready to bring you even better news and coverage of events that matter to you and the rest of Michigan.

All of us will return with a heightened sense of optimism and enthusiasm that can only go on to achieve great things for our great state.

We might be taking off for Chicago, but the knowledge, experience and opportunities that we'll bring back to Michigan will be seen and talked about in Michigan for years to come.

MichLib will go (4.00 / 1)
Not all of MichLib's corps of bloggers will be leaving, so MichLib will keep going as strong as ever.

Keep checking back for your daily Coffee Talk, breaking news, commentary and progressive snark even while YearlyKos goes on.

er, that's go ON (0.00 / 0)
And that, ladies and gents, is why you don't comment past midnight when you're in the middle of packing for a trip and such. :-)

Have a safe, fun and productive time... (0.00 / 0)
One day when I have my own life back, I will go to YK.  Until then, I look forward to your trips and hearing about the event.  Be safe and have fun.  Chicago is a great town.

Enjoy yourselves... (0.00 / 0)
I'm broke and gotta work, so I won't be there, except maybe in spirit.:)

I love my still-adorable babies. . . (0.00 / 0)
but I am hopelessly jealous. Not only do you all get to talk to adults about adult things, but you will also probably be able to drink adult beverages while doing so without having to worry about the timing because you don't want to get your babies drunk.

You kids today, you have no idea how great you have it. :-)

Seriously, have a great time, guys, and if you can find a chance to keep us Michigan-bound folk updated from time to time, we would be incredibly grateful!

Hope you have a good time (0.00 / 0)
I can't wait to hear how it goes.  Wish I could have gone.

I'm so excited, I can't stand it! (0.00 / 0)
I'm terrified I'll oversleep tomorrow and miss my 7 a.m. train.  Maybe I'll just stay up all night tonight!

See everyone there TOMORROW!

Kos was destroyed Monday (0.00 / 0)
what pray tell will you guys do with yourselves?

by the by, Chris over at open left says MI may move up it's primary/caucus to as early as 12/8.  News to me!  You'd think a few candidates would have gotten wind of this and maybe stop by a little more frequently and the derth of MI polls is telling.  Maybe we need a post about MI having an early primary date...hmmm maybe I could do that since you guys are painting Chicago red all weekend.

PS Bring back a few scarps of the destroyed remnants of kos.  ~(_8>(I)  ...  wait for it...wait...homer simpson!!
