Michigan Bloggers on Off the Record

by: joan

Fri Aug 17, 2007 at 14:51:42 PM EDT

Last Friday, Off the Record taped a special bloggers' edition, which can be viewed on WKAR's site here. In attendance were Nick Deleeuw from RightMichigan.com, Emily Zanotti from GotDetroit.com, Marcy Wheeler from The Next Hurrah, and, well, me. We talked about the Mike Bishop censoring Blogging For Michigan fiasco, the 2008 race for president, and potential governor contenders for 2010.

Marcy sounded incredibly intelligent and on her game, the bloggers on the other side of the table were remarkably candid about the Republican candidates for president--or lack thereof--and I felt welcome and tried not to make a complete a-hole out of myself. There's also blogger gossip!

Someone please tell me I don't look like an idiot--it was my television debut, and I did give birth to twins only three weeks before taping. (The kids, as a matter of fact, were in the greenroom with their Auntie Julie as we taped.) Still, I can't watch.

You did very well, Joan (0.00 / 0)
You were articulate and specific, AND you look great for just giving birth to twins! Further good PR for the site and for BFM.

Well done! (4.00 / 1)
New-Mommy Joan and Marcy did a great job.  I watched the taping from the Green Room with the babies and even they were impressed.  They also peed on Timmy's couch, but that's another story.

Do stupid people know they are stupid?

We cannot confirm or deny (4.00 / 2)
. . . whether my children did or did not urinate on the sofa at the studio.

Perhaps not (0.00 / 0)
But if, hypothetically, they did pee on the couch, it'll make a great story as they're growing up.

"First I got to meet Governor Granholm and then I peed on Tim Skubick's couch!!"

Nice job

Great job Joan! You and Marcy did a phenomenal job on OTR.

I can't believe Nick from RightMichigan was actually cocky enough to assume that his post re: the blog censorship was actually the mechanism that triggered the lift of the censorship ban. Wow.

Btw, glad that now we really know the DeVos/Right Michigan connection. Like anyone's really surprised....

But back to the important issue, Joan and Marcy rocked out, and I think it's safe to say in my biased opinion that you gals presented a stronger front than the other two...

Great job, Joan and Marcy! (0.00 / 0)
Giuliani is the pro-cross dressing candidate?  I loved it, Marcy!

So does it now look like we're going to reach an agreement for a joint primary on February 5 or earlier?  Interesting development.

You guys were just front-paged at dKos! (0.00 / 0)
I actually didn't get around to watching the appearance until just now; excellent job!

I was amazed that both of the right-wingers basically just admitted openly that their entire batch of candidates sucks.

Deleeuw gave the classic Grover Norquist response about healthcare by comparing Gov't-run healthcare to the Katrina response; basically saying, "the Gov't sucks at doing stuff, so they shouldn't do it" instead of the obvious answer: Get people who are actually COMPETENT to run the damned Government and perhaps they'll actually accomplish something.

Or, as P.J. O'Rourke put it,

The Democrats are the party that says government will make you smarter, taller, richer, and remove the crabgrass on your lawn. The Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work and then they get elected and prove it.

automotive jobs in Michigan (0.00 / 0)
Joan-

I just wanted to provide some quick facts about the auto industry in Michigan.  It is a major employer in our state.  363,601 Michiganders are employed in direct auto related jobs.

Of that, 189,633 are jobs in auto companies manufacturing/sales.

28,150 are jobs in auto dealerships.

145,818 are jobs in the auto parts industry.

Thought you'd find this info useful.

Thanks!
