Charlie Sheen Moment

Pete is having the political equivalent of the Charlie Sheen moment. The only thing that could make this satire better is if he stared referring to himself a "warlock" with "tiger blood and adonis DNA." I mean, he's already called himself a super-hero.

Right now Gov. Snyder's MI Dashboard is showing Granholm, Democrats were right...

Go ahead, check out the Dashboard.
See all those green upturned thumbs, showing positive progress in that particular metric?
Now check what YEAR the data is based on.
That's right -- most of the good news in the MI Dashboard right now reflects things that happened in 2010...aka Jennifer Granholm's last year in office.
If only we'd had all this 18 months ago.

Robocall

I got a robocall asking me if I wanted to be connected to a telephone town hall meeting by the Gov.
The robocall then automatically connected me to the call. I listened for a while. There were lots of the "What are you gonna do about these potholes!?" kinds of questions (as you can expect from a bunch of people who are dragooned into a conference call.
It was pretty amusing.

I don't think his primary goal on Feb 28 is beating Romney

The February 28 primaries in Arizona and Michigan are likely to be solid Romney victories. Romney curiously holds an edge with Latino voters while simultaneously running as the most hawkish anti illegal immigration candidate. Additionally, Arizona has a fairly sizable Mormon population. All three of these factors serve to make Arizona a very favorable state towards Romney. And Romney's advantage in Michigan is known.
As such, I think Santorum's realistic goals are twofold. First of all, he wants to come in second in both Arizona and Michigan, in the hopes of knocking Gingrich down a peg, if not out of the race entirely, before the March 6 primaries. Doing so would serve to substantially further his argument that he is the best hope the ultra-conservatives have of beating Romney.
Secondly, I believe he wants to make Michigan competitive so as to build momentum by exceeding expectations in a state that most have written off as a Romney blowout. This is quite possible, as Romney's opposition to the auto bailouts will hurt him in the state and Santorum's appeal to blue collar social conservatives will net him a fair amount of these voters. He can't win here, but he might be able to prevent Romney from a sweeping victory like he had in Minnesota.

I want

I want you to keep that link bookmarked, because this needs to be shouted every time some pundit pretends that benevolent overlord Rick Snyder turned around the state in a single year. I just know he's going to get the credit, anyway, just like Granholm was blamed for a downturn that happened two years before she even reached office.

Surplus

That's because pundits and reporters don't usually bother using critical thinking. Many completely ignore the fact that the surplus occurred under Granholm's final budget. We're only 5 months into Snyder's first budget. I read an excellent diary at DailyKos which included this quote from an archived Free Press article:

"Granholm said that unlike three previous governors, she will leave her successor with a balanced budget and a $400-million surplus."

http://www.dailykos.com/story/...
This article was from Dec. 11 2010. So we knew the 400 million dollar surplus would be there before Snyder even entered office. Snyder was just fortunate to come into office when the economy was on the upswing.

I love

I love how conservative pundits are pointing to this surplus as if Rick somehow turned around the state in a year, while totally ignoring for that nearly every single month of Granholm's last year, the economy was already on the way back up. In fact, the unemployment actually began to go up during the first half of Snyder's first year. I don't blame that on him, but then they shouldn't be pretending as if there is anything that Snyder did that is responsible for the uptick that began before him.
Sorry, kind of off topic rant, but I've seen the Detnews pen a number of editorials that have either said this directly or implied it.

I think

I think it's cute that Santorum thinks he can just come in here and take this from Romney. I really want to think that the Michigan GOP is a bit classier than the state parties in the South and the Plains, I really do. If Santorum wins by waging culture warfare (particularly if he wins Oakland County Republicans), I'll totally cut them off. lol

Wait, wha?

Rumor on the street is that a certain white-haired legislator from West Michigan who hates homosexuals, when asked a question or two by a reporter, responded by inviting said reporter into the bathroom where he could get answers over a nice friendly pee. It would be irresponsible to speculate whether this House member -- and let's protect his identity and just refer to him as D. Agema ... no, better yet, Dave A. -- had something untoward on his mind in doing so.

Huh? You got any more to this?
