Stupak

I've written three letters to Stupak asking about C Street, The Family and his rent arrangements along with some questions as to why he consults only with other men about the issue of abortion. All I get is artful dodging of the questions and reprints of editorials from the Alpena paper. Sure is funny he never quotes from any of the U.P. papers, including that of his home town, Menomimee.

Glengariff Right Wing Political Operation

Isn't Glengariff some Right Winger operation ran by a former Republican staffer with an English degree who totally screwed something up for Engler so bad that he had to leave Michigan? He wasn't a pollster by training or education by fellow right wingers like Rothwell put in business to have a captive "pollster" who would magically produce the results desired? If they are sending business out of Michigan at least they could pick a non partisan pollster with an education in surveys and polling and some credibility.

Stupak...

The thing that makes this not terribly clear cut for me is that I have a press release in my Inbox from Stupak's office that says Stupak supports legislation that would put teeth to the public trust doctrine (the bill Dan Scripps authored).
Now, you can say that it's a cynical ploy to distract people from the abortion vote (and I'm hearing that a deal is being cut on that to get Stupak's vote ... possibly without the Stupak amendment language included), and that he did the same with his repeal of NAFTA. I would agree to some extent. However, because of his past voting record on both issues, I'd also have to point out that they are very consistent with positions he's taken ... and positions that most people here would agree with. I'd also point out that he was basically alone two years ago in identifying short-term speculation as the cause for the summer's record spike in gas prices that had Republicans demanding that we immediately drill in Alaska.
Again, it doesn't excuse the abortion-related obstructionism, but it does highlight that getting behind a primary opponent -- especially one that would lose if she beat him (in addition to being a primary opponent who would have won in the same way that Tim Walberg got Schwarz booted from Congress ... with oodles and oodles out out-of-district money) -- is not at all a simple thing.

So what?

That's a minor point about an irrelevant controversy. I have lived in this state for most of the last 32 years, and I have never once spent a March 20 celebrating Michigan agriculture.
This entire things reminds me of an argument I overheard once over who would win in a fight -- the comic book Batman, or Batman from the movies. It's not like the governor was ordering out the state militia to force feed tofu to people.
The only people offended by this are either people who are looking to be offended by the governor, or people tricked into believing that this actually makes the slightest bit of difference.

Missing a major point

You are missing the fact that Guv Jenny proclaimed Michigan Meatout Day as March 20. For about the last 30 years, National Agriculture Day has been observed on March 20. If she wanted to poke BOTH fingers in the eyes of Michigan farmers as well as meat lovers, she couldn't have done a better job.
Maybe she should have spent more time trying NOT to tick off every major constituency and she wouldn't be so reviled. Or maybe she's just clueless.

I would prefer that people take up the solutions to problems themselves, but when those people refuse and those problems affect me directly then something else is necessary. I'm not sure what you mean by "taxing negative externalities," but if it means requiring that people pay the full cost of cleaning up messes they make, then you may sign me up as in support of that.

Bart Stupid

Given the fact there isn't one abortion provider in his District why is he so adamant abort this matter? Does he truly think he can impose his constricted viewpoint on the issue nation-wide?
Hell's bell's, all a woman has to do right now is get some pills from her doctor to abort, how is Stupid goig to prevent that?
And, like has been said elsewhere here, don't be so certain the majority of us Yoopers will vote for him come August 3rd. C Street and his rent arrangements still have not been fully aired.
