State authorizes Nestle to steal more of your property

From the AP:

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality says Nestle Waters North America's proposal meets permitting requirements. Regulators previously have determined the project isn't likely to adversely affect surface or groundwater resources.

Greenwich, Conn.-based Nestle plans to withdraw 150 gallons per minute from an aquifer in the county 70 miles north of Grand Rapids.

That is, Nestle's plan to place Michigan groundwater -- property belonging to you and me -- into sacks and haul it off to market won't adversely effect surface or groundwater resources. I kind of wish I could get a cut of the proceeds ... guess that's not happening.

It's probably also about time for Nestle to start making noise about potentially building another bottling facility in Evart, the Osceola County city that agreed to sell water from its municipal water (labeled Spring Water in the market) at rates lower than the actual tax-paying citizens of Evart pay.

Nestle's Takes the Very Best (0.00 / 0)

How much profit is Nestle getting?  How does that compare to revenues to Michigan?  I must presume that Nestle is getting the larger portion of revenue- by far.
How can an out-of-state business profitting disproportionately greatly from a Michigan resource be considered as in the public interest?
How can a diversion of 115 gallons of water per minute with most of it leaving the state be considered as no adverse effect?  Who is allowing this?  Who can stop it?
Should we be encouraging the use of non-reuseable plastic bottles for drinking water?
There is  no such thing as no adverse effect when it comes to human water consumption.
Michigan's water levels are at a historic low.  Water levels around the world are droppimg at an unsustainable rate.
Who let this happen?  Does the DEQ have the power to determine public interest?
