| From the AP: The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality says Nestle Waters North America's proposal meets permitting requirements. Regulators previously have determined the project isn't likely to adversely affect surface or groundwater resources. Greenwich, Conn.-based Nestle plans to withdraw 150 gallons per minute from an aquifer in the county 70 miles north of Grand Rapids.
That is, Nestle's plan to place Michigan groundwater -- property belonging to you and me -- into sacks and haul it off to market won't adversely effect surface or groundwater resources. I kind of wish I could get a cut of the proceeds ... guess that's not happening. It's probably also about time for Nestle to start making noise about potentially building another bottling facility in Evart, the Osceola County city that agreed to sell water from its municipal water (labeled Spring Water in the market) at rates lower than the actual tax-paying citizens of Evart pay. |
