Peter Hoekstra and George W. Bush hate children. (UPDATED!)

"Bush cast his veto behind closed doors without any fanfare or news coverage."

We only needed 15 Republicans to change their NAY votes to overrule bush's veto... My Congressman Pete Hoekstra was one of the Republicans in Congress that refused to change his vote. He refused to protect the 23,061 children living in MI-02 without healthcare! Let me repeat that:

PETER HOEKSTRA VOTED AGAINST 23,061 CHILDREN IN MICHIGAN'S 2nd U.S. CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT!!!

PETER HOEKSTRA HATES CHILDREN!!!

I will be standing on the corner of River Street and US 31 in Manistee, MI at 6:00pm tonight. I will be the one holding a sign questioning Hoekstra's heartless vote and bush's evil veto. Hopefully, I will not be standing there alone, but I will if I must. I am heartbroken by this veto and Hoekstra's vote.

I've spoken to people about Hoekstra's vote against SCHIP and heard:

So what? I've never even heard of SCHIP before.

And those people are right... Sort of.

It's true that we don't have SCHIP here in Michigan, but we do have MIChild, and MIChild gets funding from the Federal SCHIP program. No SCHIP funding means no MIChild funding.

He literally cannot live without these infusions, these infusions which are to treat a "preexisting condition", cost thousands of dollars, and Michigan's MIChild is the only insurance that will pay for them. Of course his condition is "preexisting", he was BORN that way!!!

His parents are employed, but MIChild is the only insurance that does not discriminate against preexisting conditions that his parents can afford to pay. They have other children, they have other bills, they are not rich, and they cannot afford to pay the thousands of dollars a month for the infusions that keep their son alive.

This kid is 15 years old and he is my cousin. His name is Steven, but we call him Stevie, although he's getting older now and wants to be called Steve. Stevie has always been one of the funniest kids I've ever known, he was  cracking jokes and doing "Erkle" impressions when he 2 years old. His parents love him, his siblings love him, we all love him, and we don't want to lose him. We don't HAVE to lose him, because there IS medicine available that will keep him alive... Only it's very expensive and not everyone is rich like Hoekstra and Bush.

Pete Hoekstra might have just killed Stevie, because of Pete Hoekstra and George W. Bush, Stevie might not live long enough to become Steve. Stevie needs his infusions to live. The infusions he gets every two weeks quite literally keep Stevie alive. I cannot stress this enough; Stevie will die without his infusions.

Peter Hoekstra and George W. Bush are vile, inhuman monsters. They are evil and there is a special place in hell for them.

I'm pleading with all of you, even if you cannot make it to join me in Manistee... PLEASE grab a sign and go outside in your own towns.

PLEASE HELP ME HOLD PETE HOEKSTRA AND GEORGE W. BUSH ACCOUNTABLE FOR HURTING AMERICAN CHILDREN!

I'm begging you, please do this. Please make them have to answer for their actions; their actions that hurt our kids. SCHIP funding will run out if we don't do something and do something FAST!

I wasn't out there standing alone on the corner of US 31 and River Street in Manistee tonight. I had two fellow brave Democrats standing with me. My Mom and Lexie... Who I am sure you will hear more from in the future, this kid wants to be a Senator when she grows up! I've got some pictures below:

(Lexie is HILARIOUS! It was so easy to tell the repubs. They would read the signs and then they wouldn't make eye contact. Lexie would start coughing and say: Something caught in your throat? Are you choking on your guilt? You should be!)

While we didn't have a big turn-out, we did have VERY positive reactions from the people driving by. Lots of beeps, thumbs-ups, and Woo's.

We're going to do it again tomorrow night, same time, same place. Hopefully more people will come and join us!
