Poor kids without health care shouldn't have homes either

(Though it's receiving less attention than SCHIP, this too is an important issue. Find out how your Rep voted here. - promoted by ScottyUrb)

So sayeth the 148 members of the House of Representatives voting against a bill that would "increase the supply of rental housing for low-income people and...establish dedicated sources of funding for the production, preservation, and rehabilitation of 1.5 million affordable homes in 10 years."

More compassionate conservatism below the fold...

Thankfully, Michigan Republicans Upton and Miller crossed the aisle, along with 39 other Republicans, to join our Democratic delegates in passing this bill last week.  This bill had 103 people sign on as co-sponsors, including representative Upton.  From the Community Economic Development Association of Michigan:

Last week on October 10th, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 2895 to approve the National Affordable Housing Trust Fund Act of 2007. The bill increases the supply of rental housing for low-income people and it establishes dedicated sources of funding for the production, preservation, and rehabilitation of 1.5 million affordable homes in 10 years. Further, at least 75 percent of the funds have to be used towards helping house families who are extremely low-income--those who earn less than 30 percent of an area's median income.  Although it is a major success to have passed the House, the legislation will still need to be approved by the full Senate. It is expected that a bill will be introduced in November or December before this session adjourns.  For more information and advocacy tools please visit the National Housing Trust Fund Campaign's website.

Isn't it possible, by looking at the record numbers of mortgage foreclosures this country is seeing, that many families are overextending themselves to pay for adequate housing?  What kind of person votes against health care for the poor one week, then follows that up with a vote against providing a roof over those peoples' heads?  If this gets through the Senate, does Bush dare veto another bill with strong bipartisan support?  The War on the Working Class rages on, my friends.
