| Jennifer Granholm, I'm told, is expected tomorrow to announce -- in Kalamazoo -- a major expansion of MPI Research. According to the buzz, a MEGA tax credit helped convince the firm to expand its operations in Michigan over a competing site in China. The expansion is expected to create 6,600 new jobs, including 3,300 directly. Over the long haul, the company is expected to invest $300 million, including money in Kalamazoo and the village of Mattawan. The company also plans to make use of Pfizer's old facilities. Update! ... That might explain this from the K-zoo Gazette last Wednesday. "We'll have the largest single announcement, certainly in life-sciences in the state's history," Kitchens said April 15. "It's the largest announcement in my career. It's certainly the largest announcement in the state of Michigan."
