Four at Four: MichMess Monday

by: PerfectStormer

Mon Jun 16, 2008 at 16:00:00 PM EDT

Those of us who contribute to Coffee Talk and Four at Four try to follow a rule against using the same source twice in one CT/4@4. Well...rules are made to be broken, especially in this case. Our friends at MichiganMessenger have been kicking tail and taking names recently, and they deserve to be recognized. Highlights:

As much as I love MichLib and love what we do, I believe in giving credit where credit is due. If you haven't already, wander on over to Michigan Messenger and check them out.

With the AP cracking down on linking and MLive still employing the White Trash Pundit (Susan J. Demas)

That was quite a bit uncalled for. I'd expect that level of discourse from some of the Righties, but come on...

WOW. (4.00 / 4)
Wherever did Demas read into Stormy's comment partisan perspective?

Many of us MTP viewers had problems with Russert's work for reasons that were about Russert's approach to journalism, and not at all about his politics.

Russert's problem became extremely obvious from the testimony of Vice President Dick Cheney's former communications director during the Libby trial; per WaPo's Dana Milbank,

...Flashed on the courtroom computer screens were her notes from 2004 about how Cheney could respond to allegations that the Bush administration had played fast and loose with evidence of Iraq's nuclear ambitions. Option 1: "MTP-VP," she wrote, then listed the pros and cons of a vice presidential appearance on the Sunday show. Under "pro," she wrote: "control message."

"I suggested we put the vice president on 'Meet the Press,' which was a tactic we often used," Martin testified. "It's our best format."

Russert was pWned, and many of us in the audience could see that.

But I suppose that expecting one of the biggest names in punditry and media making a living on our publicly-owned airwaves to be competent and professional without being compromised is now "partisan."

Or maybe it is...What party would that be that supports integrity?

That's what I said. (4.00 / 3)
Her characterization of my comment as partisan is predicated on the assumptions that a) Tim Russert was some kind of a partisan hack, and b) she and Tim Russert are on the same side of said partisan hackery and I'm on the other side. We know I'm a commie pinko lefty, and we know Susie voted for McCain, but she's making an awfully big leap making such assumptions about Tim Russert. I always thought he was pretty fair-minded and even-handed.

Oh well... Susan Demas has made an enemy for life. (And I'm sure she's shaking in her cowboy boots over it.0

Seems like PerfectStormer answered a spitball with a crudely built pipe bomb. Namecalling is beneath us.

Thanks for giving credit to the MM (4.00 / 4)
MI Messenger has really been kicking butt lately, and thank you Stormy, for giving props to them - they definitely deserve it for impressive state-wide coverage - literally from downtown Detroit to Traverse City and beyond.

Great work MM!!

Yes, thanks very much, seconding LiberalLucy (4.00 / 4)
We appreciate the support; nice to know that somebody notices the work our folks are doing.

Speaking of which, I'm posting Minehaha Forman's first report from the Joe where it is now pandemonium since the news of Gore's endorsement hit cellphones this afternoon.  I'll be manning the laptop here and doing posting to the site while Minni Forman and Alexa Stanard cover this evening's event.

OMG, you have NO idea how much I wish I could be there tonight; there are supposed to be 1300 VIP's present.  I have such a bad case of blogger envy right now. [sigh]

Todd's been working on video and a mess of photos he took earlier today, which we'll post as time permits this evening.

Thanks again, Stormy et al!
