TOP 10 CONGRESSIONAL RESOLUTIONS OF THE 110th CONGRESS

by: DianeS

Thu Jul 10, 2008 at 03:41:08 AM EDT

While we ponder the insanity of  so many members of Congress bowing to Mr. 28% with the capitulation on the FISA Bill yesterday, here's an interesting look at the top 10 Congressional resolutions of the 110th Congress:

1. S.RES.440: A resolution recognizing soil as an essential natural resource, and soils professionals as playing a critical role in managing our Nation's soil resources.

2. S.RES.262: A resolution designating July 2007 as "National Watermelon Month".

3. H.RES.216: Congratulating the men's volleyball team of the University of California, Irvine, for winning the 2007 NCAA Division I Men's Volleyball National Championship.

4. S.RES.180: A resolution recognizing the 70th anniversary of the Idaho Potato Commission and designating May 2007 as "Idaho Potato Month".

5. H.RES.630: Congratulating the Warner Robins Little League Baseball Team from Warner Robins, Georgia, on winning the 2007 Little League World Series Championship.

6. H.RES.970: Expressing support for designation of June 30 as "National Corvette Day".

7. H.RES.1050: Recognizing Pittsfield, Massachusetts, as being home to the earliest known reference to the word "baseball" in the United States as well as being the birthplace of college baseball.

8. H.RES.89: Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that a day should be established as Dutch-American Friendship Day to celebrate the historic ties of the United States and the Netherlands.

9. H.RES.892: Expressing support for designation of a "National Funeral Director and Mortician Recognition Day".

10. H.RES.483: Recognizing the 63rd Anniversary of Big Bend National Park, established on June 12, 1944.

Perhaps given Wednesday's events, we shouldn't be too surprised at anything, eh?

Peace,

shake your head at Monday morning sessions. BTW #8 was brought to us by none other than Crazy Pete Hoekstra. The scary thing is I didn't have to click the link to know that! He's introduced so little legislation, his sticks out like a sore thumb!

This is why so many people hate government.  If they aren't ripping the system off, they're doodling it.

For the first time ever (0.00 / 0)
approval of Congress is in the single digits...

All the headlines use language that suggest the Democrats caved to President Bush...

And somewhere in the depths of DC, political hacks are high-fiving each other over how good they are at working the system...

Way to go Democrats!

Caving to the opposition is strength...low approval is success...

Being the alternative to a crappy electoral choice is a referendum to...to...

Now we know where our state House Caucus get their ideas from...

At least we can be sure that -- assuming Democrats increase their majorities -- there's nowhere to go but up...

These are Resolutions, not Bills (4.00 / 1)
Resolutions have always been like the ones cited -- frivolous acknowledgements of this event or that accomplishment, and "sense of Congress" motions to tell the President or the constituents back home what the House or Senate thinks of a certain issue (without having to actually take a real stand).

Perhaps one's time might be better spent examining the bills and amendments that came up for votes in the 110th Congress, and identify how many times Hoekstra, Walberg, Rogers, Knollenberg and McCotter stood in the way of progress or supported the President at the expense of the people of Michigan.

Just a thought.

That's the point (0.00 / 0)
in the US House (and any other similar chamber) there is nothing the minority party can do to block anything unless there are members of the majority party willing to help them accomplish it...

I understand the need for conservative Democrats to continue to be elected...I'm just asking they be smart about it and not do so at the expense of destroying the Democratic "brand."
