(I can see Russia from my house! - promoted by matt)

So... anything good on TV tonight?

As if you all aren't gathering in front of your televisions right now to watch what could be one of the greatest political train wrecks in history. Or it could just stink. You can play along at home tonight with bingo games here and here. Leave your favorite quotes in the comments.

Our Sarah Palin drinking game.... (4.00 / 3)
so, we've popped some popcorn (literally) and have beer. We plan to take a sip of beer each time we hear Gov. Palin say one of the following things:

"Ya know"
"You betcha!"
any time she ends a word that should be "ing" with "in"

We're looking for more nominations. Feel free to throw in some Bidenisms, too.

oops, I forgot one (4.00 / 2)
"in Alaska" (double sip for "here in Alaska")

So how drunk are you now? n/t ;o (4.00 / 1)

The end of the human race will be that it will eventually die of civilization.

it could be worse (4.00 / 1)
I could have included the word "Maverick". ;)

Palin Mistatement #1 (4.00 / 2)
She seems to have forgotten that McCain's Campaign Manager was, until recently, getting paid by Fannie and Freddie.

Do stupid people know they are stupid?

holy run-on sentences, Batman! (4.00 / 1)
she'll need an oxygen tank at every break.

Six sips of drinks so far. In three statements.

Nice pile o' notes she has there. I wonder if Rove is cowering under her podium.

Grrr... the spouse says we need to add a sip for every "hockey mom" reference. Dunno how much beer I have here at home.

We should drink... (4.00 / 2)
every time she refuses to address Sen. Biden and speaks "to the American people".

Do stupid people know they are stupid?

Shorter Sarah Palin: (4.00 / 4)
I hate government, so please hire me for a government job that pays $200K.

slow down a little, Joe (4.00 / 2)
it'll be more effective if you say less and say it a little slower. Let it sink in to all of us that aren't total policy wonks.

She's talking pretty quickly... yet her words are a bit superficial. A wash of bullshit that doesn't sink in. All you get is the physical impression of "nice pretty lady" and the occasional punch she throws with a wink and a grin.

Joe needs to deliver the criticisms of McCain/Bush/Palin very clearly - not rushed.

I don't want to talk about the causes of climate change... (4.00 / 1)
because it's really caused by all of the books that I burned up in Alaska.

Do stupid people know they are stupid?

I find "drill baby drill" disturbing. (4.00 / 4)
That is all.

This kind of debating favors Sarah Palin... (4.00 / 1)
All you have to do is plow ahead without fear that someone's actually going to call you on it.  She can drone on and on and on and on with nonsense, confident that no one's going to stand up in the audience and throw the "bullshit" flag.

I did dig Joe Biden's Bridge to Nowhere crack.

Among the Trees

hopefully the media will feel compelled to debunk (4.00 / 1)
the bullshit and intentional mistatements.

I'm sure they'll feel compelled to try and list a bunch of "blunders" by each. Of course, hers are full-out lies and pretzel-like twisting of truths. His are will just be pointing out when he & Obama didn't always agree on every issue. In other words, the media narrative will be that the debate was pretty even because she didn't totally implode.

(Of course I say that, there's still 11 minutes left. She still could get into a hole. Like the thing where she said that the toxic environment on main street has poisoned Wall Street. That cracked us up.)

... (4.00 / 3)
I thought it was 1863 all over again when she was referring to the general on the ground in Afghanistan -- repeatedly -- as McClellan.

At first, because I'd dozed off, I thought she was maybe referring to Scott McClellan.

Equality for all Americans... (4.00 / 2)
I wonder how the fundies are going to respond to Palin's wiffle waffle on same sex couples?  She agreed that same sex couples should be able to have the same rights and benefits as heterosexual couples.  Interesting.... wonder if McCain is going to show up at the next debate to "help" her like on Katie Couric.

Do stupid people know they are stupid?

I thought that was the death knell for McCrazy (0.00 / 0)
She was supposed to shore up the southern Bible-thumpers, and she is clearly saying that her position on gay rights is mainstream democrat!  That will not go unnoticed in "Final Days" land.

[ Parent ]
She's holding her own. (4.00 / 2)
I'm kind of surprised. Then again, the expectations bar was set really low.

She's kind of a bitch, though.

Things that I've been pondering... (4.00 / 2)

1.  Is it required for GOP membership to mispronounce words like "nuclear" and countries like "Iran" and "Iraq"?

2.  Palin's hair looks good.  I have better hair, but I can appreciate a nice coif.

3.  Two out of two bloggers agree - Biden is hot.  (I think he's less hot than Sean Connery.  The other blogger is more of a Biden fan.)

4.  If Sarah Palin ends up in the White House.... I'm leaving for Canada.

Do stupid people know they are stupid?

[ Parent ]
she's well prepared with lots of notes (4.00 / 2)
but she's evaded a lot of actual questions. She's made several mistatements by blundering words, and stated many outright lies and distortions.

But every voter has to ask themselves, which person on stage could you see as the President during a crisis that causes the death or incapacitation of the President. Do both of them seem ready for the job?

She seems very nice and likeable, but does she REALLY seem like she could take over as President? I don't think so.

OOH, Biden's getting heated about class warfare. Good deal!

She's so cute in response, "Dawg gonnit!" (requires another sip of beer). But, she's saying NOTHING that meets his passion about the plight of the middle class.

[ Parent ]
Awfully big of her (4.00 / 2)
to "tolerate" you. OMG.

"Kill the headlights and put it in neutral..."

[ Parent ]
Heh (4.00 / 2)
I was watching it with one of my best gay friends, and he goes "I think 99% of people watching this won't have a clue where she stands on gay marriage."

I'm not sure Sarah does either.

[ Parent ]
I appreciate how ... (4.00 / 3)
... Senator Joe Biden is behaving like an effective and true  gentleman in this debate with Gov. Palin.  (Hats off to his debate prep partner, J. Granholm) So far, so good.

"In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." - George Orwell

More words (4.00 / 3)
Add "maverick" to that list, and "get government out of the way." We sure did that on Wall Street.
Did she just say, "say it aint so Joe?"

yes, and "there you go again!" (4.00 / 2)
as if she's Reagan. heh.

the cutesy middle schoolers getting extra credit comment was very cute for a PTA mom. Not the person who is a heartbeat away from being the most powerful person in the world.

I'm guessing the pundits will say she held her own. I'm guessing some will even claim it's a draw... but there's no way. He is PRESIDENTIAL. He is knowledgeable and confident. She is rehearsed and cutesy.

I'm a female, and I'm totally replused by her cutesy delivery on serious issues. It is demeaning to the power of the words. She doesn't know how to say anything she believes with strong conviction. Can you picture her sitting across the table with our allies, with our enemies, talking? She seems like an empty vessel.

[ Parent ]
Maverick, not (4.00 / 3)
Oh man, did he bust that Maverick BS or not? Great job Joe, say it is so Joe.
