The Damage

Collectively, it's like the don't know when to shut up and apologize. Instead, they keep making it more and more obvious how little they respect women.

Exactly

If they had said,

"We understand that we are making decisions that affect people's lives.  That is what we are all about.  As pro-life lawmakers, we feel just as strongly about this as the pro-choice lawmakers. While we have no intention of changing our votes, we do believe that we owe Ms. Brown and Ms. Byrum an apology for overreacting.  As strong Republicans, we need to have a thicker skin in the face of debate that is held in good faith.  We hope to be able to work with Ms. Brown and Ms. Byrum effectively on topics that are less emotionally weighted and we earnestly hope that this has not damaged our relationships."  

ALL OF THIS would have just GONE AWAY.  

But no...

They have to double down.  

So be it.  I didn't call this tune, I'm just trying to dance to it.
