Ted Nugent, secessionist

by: Eric B.

Fri Jul 06, 2012 at 15:27:29 PM EDT

Someone alert MLive! They can add to their stable of conservative columnists that already includes an insurrectionist.

Mitt Romney surrogate and entertainer-turned-conservative-activist Ted Nugent cranked his political volume knob back up this week, penning an op-ed suggesting the Supreme Court's decision on Obamacare served as evidence that the United States would have been better off if "the South won the Civil War."

Perhaps the real solution here would be to get Congress to pass a resolution saying that if Ted Nugent wanted to secede from the Union and take his Texas ranch with him, that no one would say a cross word.

Drives
This kind of thing drives me crazy.  I understand Southern nostalgia and/or bitterness for the days before the Civil War and how the war ended up for them, if even I totally and vehemently disagree with the sentiments and find them incredibly misguided and insensitive at best.  What I don't get are Northerners who deal in this offensive kabuki of traitors.  It drives me up the wall. It is not unusual to see Confederate flags on trucks in Indiana, and it just blows my mind.

Indiana?
Indiana? Hell, I see confederate flag decals on pickups here in Michigan and it drives me up the wall. Dudes, Michigan was not a confederate state, and the confederates were a bunch of freakin' traitors!

I saw
I saw the most crazy thing I've probably ever seen right here in Lansing a few months back.  There was a pick-up truck going north on Larch, and covering the back window was one of those full-window graphics.  Here's the crazy part: It was some kind of weird mash-up of the Mexican flag and the Confederate flag.  I was stunned.  I tried getting a picture of it with my phone, but it didn't come out too well.  Rarely have I been so perplexed.

BTW, I said Indiana, because while you may see it up here every once in awhile, Indiana is like the middle finger of the South.  It's just so out of place here in the Great Lakes.

Just yesterday...
I saw a piggish, white trash lady at the laundromat with the Stars and Bars turned into a purse. I'm not one to render sociological judgments (although I apparently just did), but she was also wearing a T-shirt advertising that her "pussy" makes the rules and a pair of stained flip-flops.  True to form, she was followed around by a shrimpy-lookin' dude who eyes appeared glossy from being consumed by a world he just can't quite get his head around, and the sort of anger verging on the ever-present danger of physical violence because that's just how he copes with the world.

Heh. The Eaton Rapids
fourth of July parade featured a couple of pickup trucks, complete with rusty fenders and lawn chairs in the back, flying the Stars and Bars. I still haven't figured out why these treasonous pinheads take such pride in having had their asses handed to them when they attempted to defend chattel slavery as an economic model. I guess even an ignorant redneck has to find something to be proud of... pride in losing is a funny choice, though.

I still intend to complain about this to the city fathers. Would they allow a Nazi flag, or the Waffen SS standard, or an Aryan Nations banner?

If Reconstruction had continued for at least a generation we wouldn't have this problem.

So - he's going to stop pretending he loves 'Murica now?
Isn't that basically what he just said? "I don't love America anymore!"

Whats wrong with
Whats wrong with some secessionist pride. At least theyve got the guts to say, hey, I still believe in states rights. What if the Americans just gave up after losing New York, or Chalreston, we wouldnt be here right now. In essance, the colonies declaring independace was the first form of states rights, with there unifacation stating that we wont stand for violaiton of our god given rights. The people who want o fly COnfederate flags have that right, and we may have bea them, but before we did  they gave us a hell of an ass wooping first. They may have lost but they sure as hell eanred the right to fly there flag.

States' Rights Are a Myth
No one believes in states' rights, they just believe that they shouldn't be forced to do things they don't wanna (like accept other races as equals) but others should be forced to do what they want (pay taxes for reckless wars).

Secessionist pride is wrong because it is the whining of childish malcontents.  If "Rebs" have an administration they like, their attitude is "America, Love It Or Leave It"; but if they have an administration they don't like, they talk about leaving it.  That's not love of country.

"I never did give anybody hell. I just told the truth and they thought it was hell." -- Harry S Truman
