| Matt Millen is most famous for talking big about how he could manage a football team's front office and then completely fucking it up. He did this, and then was given his old job back of talking about what football teams ought to do to win. Jennifer Granholm was a terrible governor. I don't envy her position for having an entirely hostile Senate Majority Leader who bottled stuff up out of spite, and if she'd gone on to teach college or some other job out of the public eye, she would have had my sympathies. But, she didn't. Instead, she's taken a cue from the book of Matt Millen and taken up a job in the media telling people what she'd do if she were elected governor somewhere. For some reason, it's something other than, "Fold at the first sign of hostility." "We cannot wait for the politicians! Do not wait!" Jennifer Granholm tells viewers to "use Democracy to your advantage" and help pass common sense gun legislation by using the initiative process in states where voters can choose what's on the ballot.
Jesus Jiminy Christmas. The woman, as governor, signed laws that necessitate the very sort of action she's talking about. When she talks about the need to not trust politicians and just do the work yourself, she's speaking from a very familiar place. The thing that galls me here is that she has an opportunity here to use her own failings as a way to educate and inform and strangthen. Insterad, she's ignored it all and is pretending to have been all her life a fire-breathing progressive ... when it's beneficial for Tee Vee ratings. |
